her ass feel bad.
âYou know what? Fuck it!â
âYeah, letâs . . .â I held off on what I wanted to say.
Desiree crossed her arms around her chest and stared out the side window. I hoped her ass was freezing in that skimpy-ass summer dress she wore.
âYou ainât perfect, Cash,â Desiree said, her head rocking back and forth with every word. âThatâs all I got to say.â
I finally turned around and faced her. âYou sure?â
âSure about what?â
âThat thatâs all you have to say?â
âOh, you trying to get smart and shit.â I tossed a hand at her.
âForget it, Desiree, just forget it.â
âI know what you thinking. You ainât gotta say it. Itâs all over your little face. You thinking Iâm a ho because I slept with our uncle.â
Caesar coughed, and his eyes widened, but he kept them on the road. I closed mine briefly, embarrassed out of my mind. âThatâs what you thinking, ainât it? Or some shit like that? But sometimes you gots ta do what you gotta do.â
âYeah,â I mumbled, âbut not with family. You have to draw the line somewhere, donât you?â
âShut the fuck up! You donât know shit, with your young, dumb ass.â
I know you ainât shit , I thought to myself. Finally she silenced her mouth. Desiree had a way of pissing me the hell off âcause she didnât know how to stop.
Caesar rubbed my thigh, and I smiled at him again. âMake a right here, boyfriend-in-law,â she spat out nastily, crossing her arms under her chest and twisting her head to one side.
When he did, she told him, âNow pull into that motel.â I cringed inside when I got a look at the place.
âDesiree, here? This place looks horrible!â
I cried, my eyes wide.
âWell, shit, Cashmere, I ainât eighteen until next month, and I know the manager here. Itâs the best that I can do for now, so shut up.â
âHow?â
She didnât answer until she opened her door, stepped out, and poked her head in my face. âHow what?â
âHow you know him?â
âWe just cool, Cash, thatâs all. Stop asking me questions that are not your business.â
I gritted my teeth as she sashayed away to the office. I leaned over and kissed Caesar. âIâll see you tomorrow after school, okay.â
He chased after me as I got out of his car and tugged both me and my sisterâs bags. âCashmere, are you sure youâre okay here?â
I dropped Desireeâs bag and reached up to stroke his cheek. âYou so sweet, worrying about me. Iâm so lucky to have a boyfriend like you, Caesar. I hope you know that.â
He kissed my hand and said, âI know it. But, baby, Iâm worried about you.â
âDonât be. If me and my sister are anything, we are some survivors, and weâll be okay. Iâll be at work tomorrow, so you donât have to worry.â I tiptoed and gave him a peck.
Desiree strolled up to us and yelled, âHey, dude, get your ass off my fourteen-year-old sister.â
Caesar dropped his hands immediately, but I waved her away and put them back around my waist.
âNo, I need to get home before Mother starts to worry about me.â
My sister mocked him. â âBefore Mother starts to worry about meâ? Nigga, where you from?â
He ignored her, waved at me, and got into his car and drove away.
After his car vanished, I asked,â What room is it?â
âGirl, they gave us the honeymoon suite!â
Desiree bumped her booty into mine. Whenever she did that, I would laugh and say, âGirl, watch that bone âcause we all know you ainât got no rump and that bone hurts.â And she would laugh and say, âBut I got titties.â
âCome on, Cash, you ainât gonna say it?â
âSay what?â
âYou know. Say it,
