him.
“You and me forever,” she said with all sincerity.
“You and me forever,” he echoed back.

“He’s an angel,” Karen assured her as she scooped Ony up in her arms.
It was something that made her feel like she was the most special person in the world, having her son in her arms. There was something about children that made them impossible not to love, especially if they were yours. Josie knew that a child could soften the hardest of hearts if that man or woman was simply given the chance to enjoy a child.
There was a magical property to them. Everything from their disproportionate bodies to their large eyes, they were adorable, innocent, and worth everything to keep them pure and innocent in a world that wanted nothing more than to tear them down.
When Josie had Ony, she knew that the reality of the world belonged to children. The world needed them. The world existed for them and she was going to do everything in her power to make sure that Ony was given a world that was worthy of how sweet and wonderful he was.
“Did he eat well for you?” Josie asked, Kheem standing behind her like an ebony monolith. Karen had her arms wrapped around her stomach and smiled at Ony who was grinning at her with his wide smile, showing off his new little teeth to her.
“He was perfect,” Karen assured her. “He ate well, took a nap, and we had fun playing with him. Chloe loves having him around. Any time you need someone to watch him, I know that she’ll be more than happy to take up the job.”
“Thank you so much,” Josie said graciously. “I’m sure I'll take her up on that offer sometime.”
Karen smiled at that and said her goodbyes to them as they stepped out of her home. She had a house in the town of Tarobi and lived there with her daughter who attended the school as one of the few white children. She was a bit of a novelty to the island. They were both the most wonderful people that Josie had been given the good fortune of ever meeting. They were the kind of people you only wanted to have good things come upon. They had been through so much darkness already that they deserved some good times.
On their way back to the bungalow, she couldn’t help but take in the evening life of the town. The bars and the clubs were already full of tourists who were hoping to get some of the supposedly authentic Caribbean lifestyle that the island offered them. Josie couldn’t help but smile at the sight. It was all a façade, a masquerade that was put on for the benefit of the people visiting this island and then leaving in a week or so.
Josie looked at Kheem who was busy taking in the sights as well, or maybe he was watching for signs of someone threatening to attack them. His eyes were alert, dancing from place to place. He had the eyes of someone who was ready for anything. She knew that Wahir had people following them, probably Jamar. As they walked, the back of her hand tenderly brushed against the back of his hand. He smiled at her and Josie couldn’t help but feel something ignite inside of her. His crooked smile, his dark eyes, and the fact that he had the physique of a god, it all made him so damn alluring to her.
Her fingers intertwined with his and he squeezed her hand tightly.
When they reached their bungalow that they had decided would be safer if Kheem stayed with them, Josie stopped before she stepped into the small hut. It was obvious why she stopped and Kheem didn’t even bother to look at her. His astute eyes had caught the problem the moment she had seen it as well. He could see that the window was open on the side of the door. This wasn’t something Josie or Kheem would be foolish enough to do. Josie stared at the window and immediately thought of what they could do to get out of this situation.
Cautiously, they approached the door and with each step they took, Josie could feel the pounding of her heart in her chest quickening and growing in intensity. Kheem approached the door first,
