of putting on something sexy?
Despite my misgivings, I bypassed the plain underwear and opted for a lacy, black thong. Jace didn’t want to see plain, white cotton, and on the chance that he’d be looking under my skirt at some point during the day, I decided it best if I wear something more provocative than boring cotton.
I arrived at the breakfast table to discover he’d already eaten and gone. Sophia was clearing his plate as I walked into the room. I wasn’t late, so I couldn’t understand why he wasn’t there. My heart fell into my stomach as I sat down.
First, he wasn’t in bed with me when I woke up. Now, he wasn’t at the breakfast table. Was he avoiding me? Did he regret the night of passion we’d shared?
The cook placed a steaming plate of food in front of me. Normally, I would salivate at the mound of cheesy eggs and strips of bacon, plus two fluffy biscuits and creamy, white gravy. However, I no longer had much of an appetite.
Glumly, I pushed the eggs around my plate. Each bite felt like lead in my stomach. It sat so heavily that I pushed my plate away after only eating about a fourth of the food on it.
“Are you not feeling well?” asked Sophia when she came back into the room and saw my pushed away plate.
“I’m just not very hungry this morning.” I shoved my chair back and stood up.
“Mr. Weatherton left word for you to join him in his office once you’d finished breakfast.”
    “Thanks.”
I took slow, small steps as I left the dining room and headed for Jace’s office. Dread filled me and made the food in my stomach seemed even heavier than before. Bile rose in my throat, and I felt as though I would throw up what little I had eaten.
What had I done wrong? Was he going to fire me?
Fear flashed through me. Without this job, I couldn’t finish college. Could I talk him into allowing me to stay even if we never had sex again? I couldn’t entertain any other though than I must’ve been the lousiest lover to ever walk of the face of the earth if he couldn’t even stand to eat breakfast with me the next morning.

16 .

The door to his office stood open, so I slipped inside. He sat behind his huge desk, his head bent toward a stack of papers on the surface. He didn’t look up until I stood right in front of him.
    “Katie, have a seat.”
My heart pounded in my chest as I perched on the edge of one of the leather cushioned chairs across from his desk. This was it. He was going to kick me out.
He put down the pen he’d held and looked up at me. My heart wrenched as my eyes met his. I didn’t want it to be over. It was too soon.
    “Did you sleep well?”
I stared at him while my brain tried to compute what he’d just said. He was going to kick me out. Why did he care how I slept?
    “F..Fine,” I stammered.
“I’m sorry I wasn’t there when you woke up. I had an early conference call.”
Wait. He was apologizing? A little sliver of hope sprang up in my chest.
    “That’s okay. I understand.”
He picked up a paper from the pile in front of him and slid it across his desk toward me.
“I would like for you to read that over. The questionnaire done by Ms. Henderson wasn’t exactly as thorough as I needed it to be. It was enough to allow me to choose someone who would fit in here, but not nearly detailed enough to suit our current needs.”
I picked up the document from his desk, my eyes sweeping across the words as I sat back down. Spanking? Anal sex? Whips? Floggers? I couldn’t quite comprehend what I was reading. I looked up at Jace, my eyebrows raised in question.
“Even though we did one session in my private room already, I do not wish to go any further without a contract. I need to know your limits. I would never want to push you into an area you do not wish to go.
“However, I do want to help you discover what your limits are. I want you to rate each option. You have three choices. Put a 1 if you are definitely interested in exploring it. Put a 2 if
