watch your back.
The voice that we have come to know as Steve cuts out, and the station turns back to static. I turn down the station but keep it loud enough so we can hear if he comes back on. “Wow, this disease has spread real far, real fast,” I say amazed and scared.
“Good to know the president is safe in his underground bunker,” Kat says sarcastically.
When something bad happens in the world, the president runs away with his tail between his legs. That seems about right.
We should be able to cross over California’s border by tonight. I haven’t heard from my parents or from Jennifer since yesterday. No text message or missed call or a voice message.
I have not got a signal since yesterday too. I guess I can kiss my phone good bye. No more surfing the internet, facebook or pinterest. No more checking the weather on weather bug, and no more text messages or phone calls.

    Chapter 15
Hell is empty and all the
    devils are here

This country depended on technology, without technology, I can only imagine there being more animals like those rapists yesterday. I wonder how my parents are going to keep the boys occupied without television. They must be going insane. Just thinking about it makes me laugh.
“What’s so funny?” Mathew asked me.
“I was just thinking how the boys are probably driving my parent’s nuts without television or a play station keeping them occupied,” Mathew burst out laughing and pats my leg.
“I haven’t thought of that. Your father is probably pulling his hair out because Alexander won’t stop talking to him,” We both laugh for a couple minutes and then the car goes back to being silent.
At this rate hopefully we will be home within twenty four hours. That’s if we don’t run into any more trouble. Keeping my fingers crossed and hope for the best. Up ahead in the middle of the road is an abandoned truck.
“Should we go around it or try to push it out of the way?” Kat ask, sticking her head between the front seats.
       “Around, I’ll just drive slowly.”
Mathew turns the car towards the side of the road and goes slowly around the car. The truck looks like it has been torn apart from the inside out. Every single one of the windows have been broken, glass covers the floor.
The tires are completely flat and there is blood smeared all over the driver’s side of the truck. As we get closer to the front of the vehicle, the driver’s side door is completely dented, a body sits in the driver’s seat.
It looks like at one time it uses to be a man. Half of his face is torn apart; a puddle of blood slowly drips outside of the car door. His arm is sticking outside of the car window; his hand has been chewed on, as if a dog was chewing on a milk bone. The smell of death and zombies feels the air around us. I pull my shirt over my nose and try to breath throw my mouth.
“The poor guy didn’t have a chance.”
“No, he didn’t, the smell is really bad here. Let’s hurry please,” Kat says covering her nose with her shirt.
Mathew pulls his shirt over his nose too and start to drives a little faster around the car. We get back on the road and leave that god awful car behind.
But I can still smell death in the air and that can only mean one thing, there are zombies nearby.
“Is there zombies around here?” I say as I fan my face in front of my nose.
        “Maybe….I don’t know
