Except, it wasn’t a normal day. No less than twenty-four hours ago, Mary had witnessed her boss fucking and drinking the young intern. She relived last night’s events in her mind, relishing the moment when Mr. White had caught her attempting to flee down the staircase. She had been so terrified, but the idea of being sexually punished by a man like him excited her. And then… A sigh escaped her mouth as she powered on her computer. Had it all been a dream? Could it have been possible that she and Mr. White had gone to dinner in one of the most exclusive restaurants in America, after which he fucked her on the carpeted floor of his town car? She had woken up early at 5am, surprised to find herself completely nude under her sheets. A surge of energy had shot through her body and her eyelids snapped open. Instantly, she was awake and her eyes would not close. She had checked herself in the mirror and the puncture wounds on her neck had disappeared. There was no evidence anything abnormal had occurred. Mary might have gone about her day as if nothing had happened if she hadn’t noticed the black cocktail dress hanging in her closet. That was it. That was all the evidence she had needed. Her heart clenched painfully as she anticipated facing Mr. White after last night’s events. How would he behave towards her? How would she react? Mary kept herself busy to avoid thinking about it. She managed Mr. White’s calendar and scheduled his meetings. There was a conference he needed to attend on Thursday, so Mary booked the travel arrangements. She cleaned her desk several times, dusting each object meticulously. Her heels tapped impatiently on the carpeted floor. “What the hell is wrong with me today?” she muttered to herself. Mary had never remembered having so much energy. Her legs were shaking so badly it was as if she had downed an entire pot of coffee. She scrolled down her email list and her heart gave a painful squeeze when she noticed a familiar name, Matthew White . There was no subject line. She clicked on the email: Miss Kramar, Please meet me in my office at once.
Matthew White CEO, White Group Inc.
Mary looked at the time and gasped out loud. It was sent nearly an hour ago. She grabbed her purse and took out her compact mirror. She adjusted her appearance with a few swipes of her hand and bolted out of her chair. Why he had sent an email, rather than screaming her name as he usually did? The abrupt change in his behavior was worrying. Trembling, she pushed open his office door. Mr. White looked up from his desk as she entered the room. He gave her a thin smile and gestured to the seat in front of his desk. Mary sat down, wondering what he had in store for her. “How are you feeling?” She blinked at the question. Mr. White was not one for small talk. She couldn’t help but feel that something was very, very wrong. “Fine, how are you?” An uncomfortable silence stretched between the two of them. “Mary,” he began in a more human voice. “I am very ashamed at what happened last night. You don’t deserve that kind of treatment.” At least he acknowledged it. It was as if he was saying goodbye, and Mary knew that Mr. White was determined to have their relationship end. “But I liked it,” she protested. “It can never happen again.” “Why?” Tears momentarily choked her throat. Mr. White blurred in her tears and she blinked furiously. There was a bounce of Mr. White’s chair
