understood completely. When he moved, the soft light gleaming on his flanks and shoulders, she edged instinctively away, rolling onto her side and attempting to slip off the bed.
"Rani!" Gage's voice cracked with strange urgency. "Don't run from me. It's too late. . . ."
She felt the bed give beneath his weight as he came down on it with one knee. A second later a large hand closed over her shoulder, spinning her back down beneath him.
For a timeless moment she stared up at him with the primitive uncertainty of a woman who knows herself caught and bound by a man. He knelt over her, his hands pinning her shoulders, his eyes glittering with his own very masculine certainty. But there was a gentleness in his touch that was suddenly reassuring, and there was a waiting look in him, as if he would go no further until she knew and understood what was happening. Slowly, he caught her hands and unlaced the leather sash.
And very abruptly, everything was all right Rani stopped fighting him and reached up to pull his head down to hers. This was what she wanted and needed. How could she have thought of running from him?
"No, no, my darling," she breathed. "I won't run. Not from you. Not tonight. Put your hands on me, Gage. Touch me, hold me."
"Rani!" He groaned the name once more against her mouth before consuming the passion behind her lips. Strong fingers moved across her breasts, seeking the tight, aching peaks. When she arched upward into his hand, he muttered fiercely sensuous words that were as fiery as his touch. Rani shivered beneath them and tried to pull him closer.
She was on fire now, willing to do anything he asked of her, eager to please and be pleased. His palms grazed the softness of her breasts and she cried out with the sweet agony of her need.
At last he ducked his sable head out from under the chain of her arms and found her nipples with his mouth. As she reacted, straining against him, he moved the flat of his hand down to her stomach, stripping off the black satin panties.
    "Please, Gage, please . . . !"
    "Do you want me, sweetheart?"
"My God! You must know!" She lifted her hips against his hand as he traced a tantalizing path downward.
He circled her nipple with his tongue one last time and then began dropping hot, stinging little kisses across the satin skin of her stomach as his fingers feathered the swell of her thighs.
Rani's nails clung, digging deeply into one broad shoulder as she turned and twisted beneath his touch. Her eyes were squeezed shut and her toes curled into the heavy dark quilt.
When at last his hand teased closer to the apex of her legs, Rani thought she would go out of her head with the force of aching desire. She waited breathlessly for him to gently part her thighs, and when he didn't she whispered his name over and over again in sensual, feminine demand.
"Show me," he taunted passionately, lightly toying with the triangle of hair hiding the ultimate goal. "Show me how much you want me. Open yourself to me; invite me inside. I need to know I'm wanted."
Slowly, with the most indescribably wanton sensation, Rani obeyed the command. Her legs parted for him and she felt his sudden indrawn breath as he gently probed the secret recesses of her. Rani was astounded at how incredibly vulnerable it made her feel to find herself responding to his passionate demand. When he touched her in that most intimate of places, she moaned his name and sank her teeth delicately into his shoulder.
"You're on fire, honey," he rasped thickly as his fingers found the flowing warmth of her. "On fire for me!"
"Yes!" How could she deny it? "Gage, I want you. I can't believe how much I need you!"
"Not half as much as I need you!" He moved, propelled by a desire that could no longer be denied. Lifting her wrists high over her head so that her breasts were drawn high and taut, he settled himself firmly between her legs.
Rani caught her breath sharply as she felt the first tentative, testing thrust into her
