softness. Gage hesitated a moment longer as if wanting to absorb the sight of her at the instant of claiming. She tried to free her arms so that she could wrap him close, but he continued to pin them above her head, gazing down into her passion-softened face with eyes that held the heat of burning coals.
"My God, Rani! My God. . . !" And then he was surging into her, shocking her body with the force of his sensual impact "Oh!" For an instant she couldn't even breathe as she tried to adjust to the overwhelming presence within her. He let his full weight sprawl along the length of her slenderness, crushing her deep into the quilt. She felt taken, chained, claimed, and her only defense was to claim him in turn.
She arched upward in reaction to the driving thrust of his hips, twisting her head to nip savagely at the contour of his shoulder, curving her body into his.
Gage responded in kind, meeting her with the full power of his manhood. His teeth closed with excruciating gentleness, first around the tips of her breasts and then around the tips of her earlobes. With one hand he continued to hold her wrists above her head, and with the other he reached down to catch her hips, forcing her to meet the rhythm he was establishing.
Their bodies surged together as the ultimate goal neared for both. Neither spared the other and neither wanted to be spared. The sheen of perspiration that coated their limbs gave evidence of the intense energy flaring between them.
When at last Rani felt herself slipping beyond control, she called Gage's name once more and then went momentarily rigid beneath him.
"Yes, Rani, yes.'" he urged thickly, burying his face in her tangled hair as the small ripples began to wash over her body. "Sweetheart..." And then he was joining her in the final ecstasy, his own body forging deeply into her, reveling in the rapturous victory that belonged to both of them.
Gage emerged from the aftermath of the lovemaking with a sense of satisfaction that went beyond anything he had ever known. He raised his head to look down into her face, captivated by the soft way her lashes feathered her cheek as she lay quietly beneath him.
Soft. Everything about her, once a man got past the sharp barricades of her independence, was soft He stared at her wonderingly, aware of a fierce pleasure. His intuition had been right. She was far more vulnerable than she realized, he thought, and with that realization came the knowledge that he must protect her from the results of her own brave pride and determination. She needed his protection, and now he had made her his responsibility in the most fundamental way. This unbelievably soft and passionate woman had given herself to him, whether she fully realized it or not, and he would see to it that she was kept safe. His mouth curved a little in wry acknowledgment of the fact that his desire to protect her was not particularly altruistic. He sure as hell did not want any other man taking on the responsibility! She was his.
The impact of his decision made him catch his breath. Never had he felt such a sense of certainty about the future. He knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that he would not be able to let Rani go even if she were to run from him. He would have no choice but to follow and bring her back. She needed him to look after her. She needed him to guard the softness. And right now the only way to protect her was to take her back to Dallas. He would not allow the threat of Aaron Prescott to hang over her like a sword of Damocles.
Rani opened her eyes to find Gage staring down at her, and the hard determination she saw in his face made her suddenly, vividly, aware of what had just happened. She had recklessly thrown herself into a passionate encounter with a man who seemed the totally opposite of the kind of man she had always thought she wanted. How could she let a man goad her into battle and then into bed?
At that thought a warm red stained her cheeks and she lowered her lashes once
