so—” “Okay. That would be great. Do you need anything?” “No. We’ll probably be gone by the time you get back.” “All right. Call if you need something and…no sex!” “Kitty!” Bunny looked outraged. “Don’t ‘Kitty’ me. I was your age not long ago.” “Whatever. Just…go.” “I’ll probably be in D.C. later. You guys will be okay, right? I’ll let the others know.” “Stop worrying. We can stay with the Loys as long as we need to. And their parents will be there. Nothing will happen.” Poppy rolled her eyes. Kitty gave them both a hug before Ev tugged her away. “I don’t want to come between you guys.” Ev sounded worried. “You won’t. You’ll just add to the family fun.” Kitty grinned. “Fun, huh? Yeah, never a dull moment. We’ll have to let Pete and Grey look after them for a bit when we get back. I’d love to see Pete’s face when Bunny goes all gooey-eyed with him.” “Yep, you’ll fit right in.” Kitty laughed. There was a commotion at the house when they arrived. “What’s going on?” Everett stopped one of the pack members. “Kurt escaped.” “What!” This couldn’t be happening. “The girls—” “You go talk to Russ, I’ll go get the girls.” Everett rushed out the door. She had to calm herself. Ev would take care of her sisters and she’d go talk to Russ about meeting the commander-in-chief. Kurt wasn’t their only worry. Kitty stood up straight and headed for Russ. She was ready for normal. Whatever that was.
Chapter Twelve
“The President. I can’t believe we’re going to meet him.” Everett looked around the plane. “The Ancients were right, Kitty, you and Everett are the key.” Russ glanced over at them. His mate Vivian was beside him. “Not me, but Kitty for sure.” Kitty just shrugged. She’d been preoccupied. Not that he blamed her. They had the girls safe. They couldn’t have them staying with another shifter family. Grey was a protector so they’d stashed the girls with Peter and Grey. He’d only been half kidding when he said the girls should stay with them, but he was happy they had that option. Now they could focus on the shifter problem. Hopefully the others would find Kurt before he caused any damage. There had been no trace of him on the pack grounds. He could’ve been anywhere by now, which he knew had Kitty on edge. They were on a commercial flight. They had their own plane, but it was easier to just buy tickets. Too much red tape involved in landing in D.C.. “I just had a number.” Vivian laughed. They were all in one row of four. Kitty and Vivian were in the middle leaving the ends for Russ and Ev. “Just a number? We’re talking the First Lady here. That is more than some digits.” Russ shook his head. Everett took Kitty’s hand and kissed her palm. “It’ll be okay. The girls are safe. We’ll be back in no time.” “Thank you for coming.” “I wouldn’t be anywhere else.” Everett assured her. And he wouldn’t. He belonged at her side. Kitty laid her head on his shoulder. “And I wouldn’t have you anywhere else. I just wish…I want…normal, you know?” “I do know. Hopefully we’ll get the reveal out of the way and we can all settle down.” “It won’t happen that way. We’ll be freaks and there will be reporters and—” “Maybe at first. But that will die down eventually and we can think about us. We might have to get a few more guards for the house, but other than that, we’re good.” “He’s right, Kitty. Things will calm down once people get used to the fact that shifters are real and here to stay. There will be some that will always oppose our existence, but we’ll ignore them and continue to live our lives.” Russ leaned over in his seat to look into Kitty’s eyes. Everett felt her calming down beside him. It was that damn alpha voice. Russ had that effect on all of them. Hopefully it would work on the
