breath and every step his thoughts were on her. How could she not see that? Maybe if they’d started slowly, or if she could actually see the process of filmmaking—not only the filming, but the business side of things.
“Why don’t we take a break? You can live in the pool house or you can stay in the main house—God knows it’s large enough. You can keep your job here and start school.”
She wiped her face, and then stood. “I’m not feeling too well. I’m going to go lie down.”
The quiet was infinite and his head pounded.
If he lost her, would he still want his business?
He didn’t know the answer to that question, but he did know he wasn’t ready to give up on their future together.

C ammie packed up the few items she’d accumulated. With the one-year lease the David brothers had bestowed on her, she hadn’t needed her Slidell home, until now. Now that she had her backpack she could take action against her stepfather. After all, she had the deed. But he was still a bully, or was he? To be fair she hadn’t simply tried to kick him out.
She took a deep breath and telephoned her stepfather.
    “This is Phil.”
    “It’s Cammie.”
    “What do you want?”
“I want you out of my house.”
He chuckled. Her stomach roiled and the room spun.
Come on, Cammie. Take control . She squared her shoulders.
“I’ve hired a lawyer and I’ve got the deed and the law on my side. Now get out, because I’m coming home.”
    “You little bitch.”
“Get out of my house! Tomorrow I’ll come with law enforcement.”
She was bluffing. She had the deed but it was in her grandmother’s name. She’d wanted to speak with the lawyer to see how to get into her name. But, she did have the knowledge that the house had been in her family for over fifty years. Phil on the other hand had only been around for two. The home belonged to her and in time she’d be able to prove it, but time was not on her side and she desperately hoped her bluff would work.
She sat at the table in the bedroom that had been hers and penned a note to Zach.
Even though she’d be placed back in an undesirable situation, it wasn’t fair to let Zach compromise his present and future because she was uncomfortable with his business choice. Cammie was young, but she wasn’t immature. This was the right move for her to make. She just didn’t know it was going to hurt so damn much.
At least she had one more night with him. She planned to make memories that would last her a lifetime.

Z ach worked the rest of the day. His stomach growled, but he was too upset to eat the grilled cheese sandwich he’d bought. He’d hoped they’d kiss and makeup, but they hadn’t.
He didn’t want to lose Cammie.
Having loved her, he knew he’d never loved before. He couldn’t explain it eloquently, but it was different with Cammie. For starters, she was easily contented. She didn’t need much to exist on—give the girl a few drugstore items and she was good to go. He laughed when he thought about the sexuality she could put into the most ridiculous attire.
No woman had ever walked away from him before. Usually he had trouble breaking things off. It was his money. Women weren’t so much concerned with him, but with the things he could give them. He’d lavished so many gifts on women that with Cammie it had been refreshing to buy her things. Things he saw that he thought she’d like. He hadn’t been able to do that before because most women knew exactly what they wanted, without exception.
Cammie had been a breath of fresh air.
Cammie didn’t back away from doing what was right even if it was going to be hard. Leaving in the middle of a winter’s night was hard, but she’d done it. She’d even escaped the clutches of a notable New Orleans drug dealer.
She fretted for others—Priscilla and Sawyer, and likely she’d fretted for him as well. Lives are precious and Cammie enriched the life of everyone around
