Tressler.
âNow, what about our parents?â Eric said. âCan we get them to black out the tube?â
âWe can try!â Dunkum said.
âWhat if they wonât?â Dee Dee asked. âWhat then?â
The kids were silent. Their brains were buzzing. Especially Ericâs. âIâve got it!â he said. âIf we catch someone sneaking TV time, we pack up the tube. No questions asked.â
âEven grown-ups?â asked little Jimmy. His big brown eyes looked bigger than ever.
âEspecially grown-ups,â Eric said.
âEveryone should sign a promisesheet,â Dunkum said.
âIâll make up a bunch,â Abby offered.
âAnd Iâll help,â Stacy said.
Eric grinned. What a terrific plan!
TWO
Eric knocked on the guest room door. His grandpaâs bedroom.
âCome in,â Grandpa called.
Eric hoped this wouldnât take long. He hoped his grandpa would agree right away.
âSit down, sit down,â Grandpa said. He was propped up in bed.
Eric pulled up a chair. âIs your afternoon nap over?â he asked.
â Now it is.â Grandpa smiled a sleepy smile.
âGood, âcause I have a great idea,â Ericsaid. He began to tell about the TV Turn-Off Week. âWe want the grown-ups on the block to join in.â
Grandpa rubbed his chin. âWell, well, that is an interesting idea.â
Eric waited, holding his breath. What would Grandpa say?
âWhereâd you come up with this, young man?â asked Grandpa Hagel.
âIt was in the morning paper,â Eric said. He felt nervous. Should he tell him about the club meeting?
âThe newspaper, eh?â Grandpa said.
âI can show it to you,â Eric said.
Grandpa waved his hand. âNo, no. Donât bother. Iâve heard of such things. Donât they do this every year?â
Eric said, âSure do.â
âWell, OK. Count me in,â said Grandpa.
Yes! Eric was thrilled. âAll right!â he hollered.
âSettle down,â Grandpa said. âItâs not a big deal.â
âIt is a big deal,â Eric said. âThanks, Grandpa!â
Eric went over to the big bed. âAny ideas about Mom? How can I get her to give up TV?â he asked.
Grandpa scratched his head. âWell now, thatâs gonna be tricky. She loves her exercise shows.â
Eric wondered what to do. âDo you think sheâll sign the promise sheet?â
âNever hurts to ask,â said Grandpa.
âTrue,â said Eric. But he knew his mom might not sign.
In fact, there was a strong chance sheâd say no.
Bri-i-i-ing!
Eric hurried to answer the phone.
âSign-up sheets are ready,â Abby said.
âGood! Iâll be right over,â Eric replied.
âHowâd it go with your grandpa?â asked Abby.
âEasy as pie,â said Eric. âNow, if I can just get my mom to listen.â
âHow hard can it be?â Abby said. âSheâll wanna go along with all the neighbors. Wonât she?â
âSheâll wanna keep up with her exercises, too,â Eric told her.
âOh, I forgot. Sheâs into fitness,â said Abby.
âWell, wish me luck,â said Eric.
âIâll pray for you,â Abby said.
Eric knew she would.
âWhen should we visit Mr. Tressler?â Abby asked.
âBefore supper tonight,â Eric suggested.
âOK.â
âIâll come over soon. After I talk to my mom,â Eric said.
âSee ya later, alligator,â Abby said.
âAfter a while, crocodile,â Eric answered.
âNext time, porcupine,â Abby added.
âNot too soon, baboon,â Eric replied.
âOkey-dokey, artichokey,â Abby said.
âBye-bye, horsefly,â Eric finished.
THREE
Eric rang the door at the Huntersâ house. Carly and Jimmy came to the door together. They were dressed like Bible
