Serenity eventually awoke feeling groggy. It didn’t take long for things to come rushing back. Strange, everything seemed so much sharper and clear both visually and mentally. The world even sounded as if the volume had been turned up for some reason. Don’t get her started on what happened when she inhaled deeply. The problem hit the moment her hand reached up to run her fingers through her hair. “Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit. I have a fucking paw!”

“Language, please watch your words. I don’t like bad words!” Serenity felt herself jump back as she was startled by the voice.

“What the hell! Who said that?” She asked freaking out even more.

“It is me, your wolf.” Answered the voice. “Thank you so much for waking me up.  I am feeling so happy.  Can we run?  I need to stretch my paws.”

“ This is surreal. Will you be talking to me all the time?” Serenity wasn’t sure how she felt about having a voice in her head.

“Yes, just think of me as your conscience.  You can control me when you want or you can let me take over and be completely a wolf.  I suggest you do that when it’s time for me to eat.  Speaking of that, I’m hungry.” Explained the voice.

Her wolf was hungry? “ I think there’s some left over’s in the….”

“Silly girl, I don’t eat your human food; I need a deer or a rabbit.” The image that popped into her head made Serenity queasy. “Will you please find a river, so that I may look at myself?”

Serenity was still in awe over the fact that the whole conversation, was taking place in her head. The one thing she knew for sure is that her wolf was very polite.

“Oh honey, you’re gorgeous!” Her mother exclaimed in excitement. “Tom, do you see. Her fur is completely white.” Serenity looked on as she walked around her.  “No marks, no patches of color of any kind?” Serenity felt panic set in as tears began to stream down her mother’s face. Yet after inhaling her sent deeply she relaxed once more.

“Sugar, you’re the most beautiful wolf I’ve ever seen.” Her father’s words were followed by a sheepish. “Next to your mom, that is.” He then turned to kiss her mother.
“All teasing aside. How do you feel Serenity?” The look of concern on his made her frown. “Are you feeling week or any pain?” She still had no clue why he was asking those questions. So she tried to ask him but all that came out of her mouth were strange noises and growls.

“Don’t use your voice to talk. Concentrate on me and think about what you want to say to me.” Her mother instructed.

“How the hell am I going to do that?” Serenity thought before hearing two voices in her head reprimanding her. Great, now she had to endure a double scolding.

“Honey, your mom and I are going to shift now. If you’re feeling up to it, we want to take you on a tour of the land. We will also need to get your wolf feed.” He scratched the back of her ear before walking away.

“I’m going to go to the woods to take off my clothes. I’ll shift there.  Your mother brought you something to put on when we get back.” He shrugged his shoulders as he proceeded to walk away. “Our clothes get shredded if you don’t take them off before shifting.”

“Your dad’s right honey. When you shift back, you will be completely naked. There are so many things to tell you!” Her mother said as she ran after her father enthusiastically.

Serenity nodded her head in understanding and rested on the floor as she awaited their arrival. It never occurred to her that they would be different in color but she was pleasantly surprised when they emerged. They both sported beautiful silver fur. Her father was bigger in size and her mother had a petite and feminine build.

When they sprinted off, Serenity took chase without a second thought. As the air whipped her fur, she couldn’t help but compare it to her dreams. For she
