remarked. I heard Fran exhale loudly, and I looked around again.
“So, how’s the sex?” She suddenly asked. I looked at her, surprised.
“Excuse me?” I asked, shocked.
“You heard me.” Fran’s voice was as daring as it was brave.
“You want me to talk to you about sex? With your brother?” I asked. The tone in my voice spoke volumes, I was sure.
“No,” she said frowning. “Sex with a werewolf.” I breathed a sigh of relief and then shrugged. I had never even thought of anything like that, mostly because there was nothing spectacular about it.
“I wouldn’t know,” I started. “I’ve never had sex with one.”
“Really? You’re going to play that card?” She asked cynically. I smiled and shrugged again.
“I seriously don’t know because when I am with Vincent, he is a man and not a werewolf as you might think,” I said.
“Oh, I see,” Fran said, rather embarrassed.
Just then, Vincent and Nathan walked out to where we were.
“All boarded up,” he announced. I noticed Fran looking over at Nathan. There wasn’t any communication, but I could tell that there was a silent greeting between the two.
“Thank goodness,” I said as I looked at him. I hadn’t expected him to come back down. Matter of fact, at the back of my mind, I thought he was already in bed naked, just waiting for me to show up.
“You guys need to come back in. Every window and door is secure,” Vincent said.
“But what if…” Fran started before Nathan interjected.
“If anything does happen, there are two werewolves in here. I think we are more than capable.”
I wanted to shout at him and say that he was yet to master his ability, but something told me to stay silent. I looked at Fran and nodded. She reluctantly got up, and I followed her inside. Vincent and Nathan were following close behind.
When we got to the dining table, Penny was still busy with her nails, and Ophagia seemed to be engrossed in the same book she had been reading earlier.
“Still reading, Ophagia?” I asked as I looked at her. She gestured at the book and nodded. “What about?” Vincent sat at the edge of the poolside bench, and Penny leaned against the screen door.
“There was this very special recipe…very interesting. See what it does, it kind of binds a paranormal’s power and…” Ophagia was going on and on.
None of what she was saying was actually comprehensible at least to me. But then again, I might not have been the only one who wasn’t understanding what she was saying. Everyone else had the same blank look I had on.
“Some people actually say that it can cure a werewolf, but it has never really been tried. I suppose it’s all theoretical until….” That seemed to get us all suddenly interested.
“I’m sorry, but I thought you said that something in that… book can cure werewolves,” Penny said.
Ophagia looked at her and nodded.
“Yes but I also said that it has never been tried.”
“And why is that?” Nathan asked.
“Well, do you know many werewolves?” She asked, and Nathan shook his head in frustration.
“Is there anyone in particular you are researching this for, Ophagia?” I asked. She didn’t look up or even flinch.
“I’m just curious, that’s all,” she said.
“Well, if you find anything concrete, I want to be the first to know,” Nathan said. I could hear the determination in his voice. Ophagia shrugged as if she wasn’t sure she wanted to let anyone in on her findings. Fran looked at me, worry written all over her face.
“Winnie, can I talk to you?” she asked before she walked to the corner of the room. I walked over to her as the rest of the people continued chatting.
“Is everything okay?” I asked as I looked at her.
“Don’t tell him anything,” she started.
“Tell who? What are you talking about?” I asked.
“Nathan.
