shocking and boring? Didn’t he like knowing how much she wanted it? She reveled in it and enjoyed coming just as much as he so vigorously did.
    “Don’t you have a boyfriend?”
    “Boyfriend?”
“The guy that was here three mornings ago?”
Her mouth dropped open. He was worried she was cheating? And it obviously bothered him. She let out a snort. “Greg? He’s not my boyfriend. Too clingy, needy, and whiny. God, I have bigger balls than he does. I don’t cheat, if that’s what your panties are all in a bunch about. Rest assured, I am an adult, swinging single and I can sleep with whomever I choose.”
His mouth puckered again and he chewed on his lower hip, his expression still perplexed. She shrugged. “I don’t know what your problem is here, AJ, but we are two consenting adults and that was a great lay. What’s the problem?”
    “I just don’t do that.”
“You don’t do what? Usually have great, hot, incredible sex?”
“Sleep with someone I don’t even know.”
She tilted her head. That was not something she expected from the man’s lips. She stepped back, realizing in an instant she made all kinds of unproven assumptions about him, since he was a rather hot and well-built ranch hand. She assumed he was callous, careless, and had sex pretty easily and whenever available, just as AJ seemed quite shocked that sex didn’t mean more to her. Emotionally speaking, that is. She cocked her head. She was acting like the typical guy and he was playing the guilt-ridden, hurt, typical girl role. Interesting… They both had unspoken expectations and were almost offended that the other wasn’t living up to them.
She shut her eyes, nearly in a panic then. “Did I force you? I mean, did I press too hard? You didn’t really want to do that?”
He shook his head. “No. I don’t mean that. I did participate. I don’t think I was thinking about wanting to do it. I never intended to do it with you, but once it started… I mean, you were a shock…”
She sighed and walked over to sit dejectedly on the hay bale they’d just made love on. “Oh, crap. Look, AJ, I’m thirty-five years old. I have a healthy, active sex life. It isn’t something that embarrasses me. I feed my desires. I thought you’d simply push me away if you didn’t want to. You are certainly strong enough.”
“Of course, I could have stopped. It’s not your fault, it’s mine. It’s just… it goes against my beliefs.”
“What do you mean, your beliefs?”
He sighed and came to the other side of her before sitting down on the hay bale. She suddenly felt weird and sorry for her actions. Almost to the point of feeling stupid. Chills broke out over her arms, and she longed for some damn clothes, now that the sexual haze was over. She rubbed her bare arms. Wishing for, at least, her underwear. He noticed her discomfort and got up and opened the truck door. He returned with a wadded-up, flannel, red-and-black-checkered shirt. He held it out to her with a solemn expression. Feeling suddenly almost awkward with him, she reached out to take it, and rose to her feet. She slid her arms into it and wrapped it around her front, huddling under it as she sat back down. “Thank you,” she said quietly.
He nodded, sliding back to sit near her, still looking chagrinned. She appreciated the sweet gesture and almost shy way his mouth nearly smiled. He rubbed his hands up and down on his thighs. She shut her eyes. He was nervous with her. Unsure. Strange. Looking at him, you’d expect him to be a swaggering, cocky alpha, out to fuck her like she just insisted he do. But now? She worried it wasn’t AJ Reed at all. He was almost embarrassed… or ashamed of what he’d done with her.
“AJ? What did you mean? Your beliefs?”
    “I don’t sleep around. I was waiting…”
“Waiting for what?” Puzzled couldn’t begin to describe how she felt. No way was this man still a virgin. She could tell by the way he responded to her and to sex.
