Fez apologising to Lynette at recess.
âIâm really sorry I hit you in the forehead with a rock,â said Wes.
âYeah, he was aiming for your nose,â said Fez.

Had a great end-of-term camp fire today. We made damper, which we wrapped around a stick and held over the fire to cook. Worms was starving. He held his damper right in the flame so it would cook faster. It caught on fire and turned into a hard black lump of charcoal. Worms was so upset that the Colonel had to feed him a packet of chocolate biscuits from the staffroom to calm him down.
We had another treasure hunt using maps and compasses. The Colonel said practice makes perfect. No-one ended up at the pub this time, but Tom, Sam and Dora did dig up the remains of Lucyâs rabbit, Bella, who died last year. Grace, Gary, Harry and I found the real treasure â a bag of lollipops, which we shared around with everyone. Except for Matilda Jane the Mature. She says sugar is bad for her complexion.
The juniors gave a marching demonstration before home time. They marched backwards, forwards and side to side. It looked more like line dancing than marching, but they were very proud of themselves anyway.
Mr Cluff finished the day with an end-of-term speech, wishing us all a safe and happyholiday. He said he would pass our love on to the gorgeous Miss McKenzie. He was blushing like a beetroot and grinning so much I thought his face was going to split. Mat and Ben looked at each other and said, âHow romantic!â at exactly the same time!
Sophie, Peter and Mum didnât get home from Bathurst until really late. Peter had been in trouble for putting a rat from the science lab inside one of the beanbags in the library. The librarian had fainted when it chewed a hole through the side and popped its head out to say hello.
Wes and Fez thought it sounded hilarious.
âI love rats,â said Fez.
âYeah. Especially Super Rat,â said Wes.
âI miss Super Rat,â said Fez, and burst out crying.

Phew. Home at last. What a relief!
Sophie and I have been at Matâs sleepover pamper party with Lynette, Grace and Julia. Julia is Ben and Graceâs big sister, who goes to boarding school. Sheâs fifteen, like Sophie.
The idea of the party was to get into our pyjamas and watch romantic movies while wehad beauty treatments. I felt like such a doofus. Everyone laughed when I came out in my blue-checked boysâ flannelette pyjamas. They all had satin pyjamas with pink hearts and kittens all over them. Grace and Julia had satin bathrobes as well.
Mat screamed every time she opened a present. I donât know what Sophie and I gave her, but it came in five different little bottles and made her so happy that she fanned her face and rolled her eyes. Lucky Mum chose the present and not me. I was going to get her a plastic poncho and some waterproof matches to take on camp.
We covered our faces in green mud, smeared our feet with olive oil and wrapped them in cling wrap, and spread our hair with something that looked like raw eggs. I donât know why everyone was so concerned about my pyjamas, because we all looked like something from Frankenstein by the time we were done.
While our beauty treatments were soaking in, we watched a movie called Forever and More THREE TIMES. Mat cried every time, even when she knew that the boyfriend was going to go away to Iceland.
When we finally washed the face masks off, everyoneâs skin had turned green! It was hilarious.I laughed and laughed until my tummy ached, but Mat, Sophie and Julia nearly died. Mat scrubbed her face with a nailbrush and took the skin off her chin, so now she has green skin and a big scab.
Mrs Sweeney still made us all go to Mass this morning. She said we couldnât possibly miss it when Father OâMalley only comes once a month. I didnât care. And I donât know why Sophie was so upset. She dyed her hair
