Mezrolly said, as her head disappeared under Josie’s apron.
“Oh, Jesus!” Josie clutched the edge of the sink with her hands behind her back. Her legs trembled, as she feared dropping onto the dirty floor.
“It’s okay baby. I won’t let you fall. If you do, it will be into my arms.” Mezrolly worked on Josie, determined to break some kind of barrier or milestone.
Josie shook until she collapsed into Mezrolly’s arms, as they fell backwards and laughed on the dirty floor. There was no worry about anything. It was a hot summer, as Josie still sparked a certain spirit of her youth, and her resilience to life’s curveballs were unlimited at this point.
When they got off the floor, Mezrolly became preoccupied. “Shit, I gotta run baby. I will see you somewhere, forever is our fate. And, by the way, you tasted incredibly delicious!” Mezrolly walked out the back door, as Josie felt the wetness Mezrolly left, as she went back to close the kitchen and go home.
Josie awoke whimpering. Good memories were always the hardest to wake up from. She looked around to see if Vinnie was safe, then she closed her eyes. She wanted badly to go back under and find Mezrolly.
The night was silent. She quickly looked over towards the sound of a pine needle dropping. She listened to her heartbeat and concentrated on the blank movie screen on her eyelids. Before every deep daydream Josie experienced, there were flashes of the most intense memories; the first memory was being accidentally let go of in the bathtub and temporarily drowning; and one of the last memories was seeing Bud hit her mother. These were more like visions of the past and Josie felt she had the power to manipulate the past, tweak it towards the positive, even if it was labeled as delusional.
She went deeper into her unconsciousness until the visions were out of her control. Little emotional essences of people’s emotions and facial expressions of the past rained down on her. Her ego had no control of what played on her eyelids.
All of a sudden, colors emerged and she could see the first images of her unconscious past. She was getting out of her car to go to the clinic. It was the type of clinic she wanted to keep a secret, because her friends and family would have been disappointed in her.
She walked the sidewalk towards the secret door in the back. They have secret doors because the Pro-Lifers liked to kill the Non-Pro-Lifers. On the way there, she passed a bus stop. She saw a girl with purple hair. She was emaciated, wore torn clothes and had a large scar under her eye. Josie was startled by the girl and jumped when the girl spoke,
“Can I bum a cigarette?” The purple hair girl asked in a weak voice.
“Sorry, I quit.” Josie said, while looking back up the street the way she came.
“Nice for you, wish I could quit. Wish I could quit everything, life, drugs, boys. It’s all one big addiction isn’t it?” Purple Hair said.
“I guess.” Josie put her hands in her pocket, then back out. “Well, I gotta go.”
“Hey, you look familiar. I know I’ve seen you.” The girl said. Her voice was hoarse, like she had gone to a rock show the night before.
“I don’t think so.” Josie said, as she took a couple steps away from the bus stop.
“No, I know! Oh my God, now I know. You were my magic moment, at the carnival remember? I dominated you.” The girl said with a cackle.
    “That wasn’t me.” Josie said.
“Stop being a coward!” The girl leaned forward on the bench. “Why do people lie when things get crazy, or too real, or fucked up? Why can’t they just own up?”
Josie felt the adrenalin raise her blood pressure, as her tactful tongue fell away:
“Okay, yeah I do remember. That’s something I don’t normally do, but I suppose it’s a regular fun time for you.” Josie snapped.
“Wow, okay, you do have a heart. What’s wrong with feeling it beat once in a while?” The girl asked.
    “It’s just, it’s just really
