Chapter 1
When Desiree woke up on Sunday morning, all she wanted to do was go back to bed. It was the weekend before Thanksgiving which meant that the early shoppers would take full advantage of the last day of the weekend. She took a long deep breath and pulled herself to a sitting position. She could smell pancakes and she knew that only meant one thing: Cynthia was not working early that morning. She got up and quickly made the bed before she went to the shower.
She had just walked out of the bathroom when she heard her phone ringing. She dried her hands and quickly walked to the dresser to pick it up.
“ Hello,” she said as she sat on the edge of the bed.
“ Hey there, sexy,” Taylor said. She smiled and balanced the phone with her shoulder as she went on drying herself.
“ Good morning,” she said, smiling.
“ I hate waking up next to an empty pillow,” he said. Desiree felt a warm glow inside.
“ I’m sorry, honey, but remember I said I had to work today? Sleeping over would have been a definite way to be late this morning,” she said as she applied lotion to her legs.
“ Well, how about tonight?” he asked. She set the phone on speaker and laid it on the bed as she spread the lotion on the rest of her body.
“ Sounds good. I don’t have to work till tomorrow afternoon,” she said as she pulled on a pair of panties.
“ Perfect. I’ll pick you up from work?” he asked.
“ Cool, you could come by a bit earlier since I punch out at three,” she said.
“ See you at three,” Taylor said before hanging up. Desiree smiled as she pulled on her uniform, consisting of a pair of black pants, a white short sleeved shirt and a black tie. She put her name tag in her purse and gathered her hair back in a tight bun before putting on a pair of silver looped earrings. After doing slight touch up of her makeup she walked out of her room.
“ Hey Cynthia….um...Tony, hi….and…uh…Rochelle?” she said as she set eyes on Rochelle and Tony at the kitchen table. “You made pancakes?” she asked as she looked at the two.
“ Yeah. Why?” Rochelle asked. Desiree shrugged and smiled. “You know I can cook too. You and Cynthia are not the only good cooks in this house,” Rochelle said, feigning hurt.
“ Whoa, I never said anything of the sort,” Desiree said as she poured herself a cup of coffee.
“ You didn’t have to. The look on your face said it all,” Rochelle said.
“ Well, I’m sorry for that, little sister. What’s gotten into you anyway? Since when do you cook?” Desiree asked as she sat down. She took a plate and helped herself to some pancakes. She noticed Rochelle and Tony exchange a quick glance. She took a bite and closed her eyes. “Vanilla and cinnamon…two of my favorite combinations,” she said as she took another bite. “Whatever you are doing Tony, keep doing it,” she said smiling.
“ You are working? On a Sunday?” Tony asked, looking at her. Desiree shrugged.
“ Weekend before Thanksgiving, everyone is in a rush to get
