The New PTA President
My name is A.J. and I hate school.
But you know what? Soon I wonât have to go to school anymore for a long time. You know why? Because today is the first day of June!
Yay! June is the best month of the year because itâs when summer starts! Yippee! No school until September!
Me and the guys were putting our backpacks into our cubbies. It was Michael who started singing the best song in the history of the world.
âNo more pencils!â sang Michael, who never ties his shoes.
âNo more books!â sang Ryan, who will eat anything, even stuff that isnât food.
âNo more teachersâ!â sang Neil, who we call Neil the nude kid even though he wears clothes.
âDirty looks!â I sang.
Thatâs when Andrea came in. She is an annoying girl with curly brown hair who loves school. Andrea had on her mean face.
âHey Andrea!â I said. âWhatâs with the mean face? Are you mad because school is almost over?â
âNo, Arlo,â said Andrea, who calls me by my real name because she knows I donât like it. âThatâs not why Iâm mad. Did you hear about the PTA election last night?â *
âNo.â
âMy mother was running for president,â Andrea said, âbut she came in second. So she has to be vice president again.â
âBig deal,â I told Andrea. âIf the presidentgets assassinated, then your mom will become president.â
âNobody assassinates PTA presidents, Arlo!â Andrea said, rolling her eyes.
âThey do too!â I told her.
âDo not!â
âDo too!â
We went back and forth like that for a while. Sheesh, what a grouch! So what if her mom isnât PTA president? Andrea should take a chill pill.
I went to my seat, which is next to Ryanâs.
âWhereâs Mrs. Daisy?â Ryan asked.
I looked around. Our teacher, Mrs. Daisy, was nowhere to be found. Sheusually gets to class early.
Mrs. Daisy used to be called Miss Daisy, but then she got married. Ladies become Mrs. when they get married. Nobody knows why.
Since Mrs. Daisy wasnât around, I crumpled up a piece of paper and threw it at Andrea. It bounced off her head.
âArlo!â Andrea shouted. âWhy did you do that?â
âDoes there have to be a reason?â
Suddenly Mr. Klutz came running into the class. Heâs the principal of Ella Mentry School, and he has no hair at all. Most principals polish their shoes, but Mr. Klutz polishes his head.
âMrs. Daisy will be late today,â he said. âShe has a doctorâs appointment.â
âIs Mrs. Daisy sick?â asked Emily, who is Andreaâs crybaby friend. She looked all worried, like she does whenever anybody in the world is sick.
âSheâs fine,â said Mr. Klutz. âActually, Iâm glad Mrs. Daisy is late, because the new PTA president wants to speak to you in private. Iâd like to introduceââ
Mr. Klutz never had the chance tofinish his sentence. Youâll never believe in a million hundred years who walked into the door.
Nobody! Because if you walked into a door, it would hurt. But youâll never believe who walked into the doorway.
It was Ryanâs mom, Mrs. Dole!

Ryanâs Mom Is Weird
Wow! Ryanâs mom is the new PTA president!
âCongratulations, Mrs. Dole,â said Mr. Klutz. âIâm sure youâll do a great job.â
Mr. Klutz had to go to a meeting, so he left Ryanâs mom to watch us. *
Mrs. Dole looked a lot like Ryan, except that sheâs a ladyâand old. When she walked into our class, Ryan hid under his desk. I couldnât blame him. Thatâs what I would do if my mom walked into the class. Parents should never come into your class, unless itâs your birthday and theyâre bringing cupcakes for everybody. Thatâs the first rule of being a kid.
âWow, the president of the PTA is
