hearing about him. I think I’ll
have to meet him one day and thank him for supplying me with excellent
security,” she said. She had to thank him for sending Ian her way, that was for sure.
Ian held the glasses while Ash poured four
glasses of wine. Chloe carried two dishes to the table.
“Hope you like roast chicken,” she said.
“You know I’ll eat just about anything,” Ian
said, pulling out a chair for Eve.
She sat. “I love it and I’m starving.”
Ash and Chloe finished carrying everything
out and set it on the table. Chloe lit some candles and then sat.
“How do you find time to do all this?” Eve
asked her.
“I have my husband and my parents,” she
said, handing a bowl of roasted potatoes to Eve.
Ash put some food on his plate and then
grabbed Sophie and put her on his lap as he ate. She looked at Eve, Eve smiled
at her, and the little girl gave her a smile back.
“Oh, you are going to be one of her best
friends,” Chloe said. “And Miss Sophie, I think that dress needs yet another
wash.”
“More cupcake icing?” Ash asked.
“She went along to Bridgit’s party and I think all everyone did was eat cupcakes and icing.”
Sophie giggled and rocked back and forth
on her father’s lap.
“Did you have a fun time?” Ian asked her.
“Oh, I think she did. She slept for six
hours when we brought her home,” Chloe said.
“So Ian, how’s Charlie doing?” Ash asked.
“I looked in on him yesterday and I don’t
think he’s been eating that well.”
“You want me to swing by his place
tomorrow and see what’s going on?” asked Ash.
“That would be great.”
“Did you hear that someone’s finally
bought the vacant shop next to craft store and Starlight Café?” Chloe said.
“Any mention what it’s going to be?” Ian
asked.
“No, but I think it’s a woman from out of
town who’s purchased it,” Chloe said.
“Cade’s interested in the larger lot on
the end because he wants to open a motorcycle store,” Ian said.
“You like riding on Ian’s bike?” Ash asked
her.
“You would not get me on one of those
things if…”
“It’s just a matter of time before she
tries it out and I’ll have trouble getting my bike back,” said Ian.
Ash laughed. “I can just see it now, the
Kalispell Flying Vet.”
Chloe slapped his arm.
“What?” Ash asked. “I think it has a great
sound to it,” Ash said.
Sophie began crying and Eve noticed she’d
dropped her bear. She picked it up and danced it toward her, making Sophie
smile again.
“The Dancing Bear, now there’s a name for
Cade’s shop if he ever opens it,” Ian said.
“You guys love your bears,” Eve said.
The three of them looked at one another,
but didn’t say anything. Had she said something wrong? People always seemed to
go sort of quiet when she mentioned bears.
“Chocolate cake anyone?” Chloe asked,
getting up from the table.
“Big slice for me,” said Ian.
“Me too,” Ash said.
“I guess you should make that three,” said
Eve.

Eve could still taste the chocolate cake
on Ian’s lips as they fell on top of her bed.
“That wine was great and I would have
liked more of it, but I had to drive home,” she said, slipping Ian’s shirt from
his shoulders.
“Then I suggest you learn to love bikes,”
he said, putting both his hands on her breasts and gently squeezing.
“But if I had too much to drink and then I
could easily fall off the back.”
“Not if you held on tight,” Ian said.
“You mean like this?” She wrapped her arms
around him and they kissed. The kisses were so much different to their first
one. These were all, tongues passing over each other’s lips, playfully biting
lips.
He pushed his hand down between their
bodies and began massaging her clit.
“I’m thinking of buying one of those
townhouses like Ash and Chloe have,” she said. She wanted to see his reaction.
If there was any chance of him saying, ‘I’d like to buy it with you and we’re
live
