can’t believe they are all grown up, and we have three grandbabies.”
“Well, believe it. Tomorrow, we’ll have all three to ourselves.”
“We’re blessed. Shannon is cancer-free, Brandon and Olivia worked out their differences and Sherry, well look at her.” They both watched her flirt with her new husband.
“I’ve never seen her so happy. I guess I was wrong about those boys,” Mr. Jones said.
Mrs. Jones smiled and rubbed her husband’s baldhead. “Thank God you finally see it. I love you.”
“Sweetheart, I love you more with each passing day, forty years and counting.” She barely got the words out before he kissed her, to the congratulations and cheerful shouts and whistles of their nearest and dearest.
Chapter Fifteen
It was late at night when Andrew woke up, alone. He felt for his wife, but she wasn’t there. Seeing the bathroom light on, he slipped out of bed and headed there. He lightly knocked on the door. “ Sherry.”
“Yes.”
He could barely hear her. “Can I come in?”
“Yes.”
He opened the door. She was sitting on the floor, holding her stomach. He rushed to her side and kneeled down. “What’s wrong?”
“I got my period. I’m not pregnant.”
He sat next to her and wrapped his arms around her. “Maybe next time.”
“What if I can’t get pregnant, Andrew? We’ve been trying for six months.”
“Sherry, six months is not that long.”
“To me it is.”
“It takes some people years to have a baby. You just need to be patient.” He rubbed her hand with his fingers.
“We don’t have that much time.”
“We have all the time in the world.”
“Our contract will be over soon.”
He turned and stared into her eyes. “I want more than a year with you, but it’s all up to you. Do you want to go see a specialist?”
“Yes.”
“Okay.” He smiled. “You make the appointment and I’ll be right there with you.”
She smiled. “You’re such a wonderful husband.”
He got up and helped her up. “Come on, let’s go watch that sappy romance movie you wanted to see.”
“Really?”
“Just don’t tell anyone.”

“Sherry, why are you nervous?” Andrew asked her, shifting toward her in his chair. It was a sturdy chair in a normal-enough doctor’s office.
“I’m not nervous,” she answered.
“You’re shaking your legs. You only do that when you’re nervous. Everything is going to be fine.” He took her hand in his.
“I’ve been on birth control since I was a teen. That was almost twenty years ago. What if I can’t have a baby? What if it’s too late?” She released his hand. “You’ll have marr ied me for nothing. We have six more months, and this will be over.”
“Maybe something is wrong with my swimmers?” He chuckled, making her giggle. “I love to see you smile.”
“Mr. Johnston and Ms. Jones,” called the nurse. “Follow me.”
Once they were settled in the room, the doctor came in and introduced himself. “Good morning. I was told you’re having trouble getting pregnant?” He explained, that sometimes it takes time. He told them he would run some tests to see if there was anything wrong with either of them, but the results were inconclusive, he recommended they wait at least a year before trying other approaches. He excused himself as the nurse came in. She gave Andrew a cup and told Sherry to follow her, because she would need a Pap smear.
Andrew looked at the cup. “What’s this for?”
The nurse handed him some dirty magazines. “You need to ejaculate in the cup.”
“What?”
The nurse tried to hide her smile. “We need the sample for the sperm count.” You’ll use that room to the right.
He got up, shaking his head, and headed to the room. He sat and looked at the magazine and tried to masturbate, but it wasn’t working. He hadn’t masturbated since before Sherry moved in to his house. She had become his sexual muse.
He left the room and went up to the counter. “I
