heart pounded as she walked toward the door. It didn’t matter how often she saw Jacob, she didn’t take him for granted. He made her heart throb as much now as he had the first time she’d seen him.
The instant Vivienne opened the door, Jacob stepped inside. “Wow, you are stunning,” he said. “Spin around for me.”
After one spin, Jacob put his arms around her. “Absolutely. Stunning.” He released her and glanced down. “Sexy shoes.”
“I thought you’d like them.” Vivienne turned one ankle to the side to give Jacob a better view. The special shoes glittered under the lights.
Jacob looked at the shoes, then his gaze traveled up her legs to her hips, and finally her breasts. “Do you have any idea what you do to me?”
Vivienne batted her lashes. “I have some idea.”
When they went to the lobby, Jason was still on duty. “Nice dress,” he said, with a little whistle.
“Thank you,” Vivienne said, and Jacob put his hand around her waist to guide her out the door.
“Have a nice evening,” the doorman called as they exited the lobby.
It was certainly starting out that way. Vivienne slid into the back seat, and Jacob followed. The driver didn’t need instructions, and just pulled away, heading for the restaurant. “I’m looking forward to this,” Vivienne said. “I checked online and this chef apprenticed under a sushi master in Tokyo.”
“He is outstanding,” Jacob said. “I read his bio, and food has been a way of life for him. Growing up in Japan, he used to ride his bicycle and deliver fresh sashimi to neighbors.”
Vivienne enjoyed chatting with Jacob. It was one of those relaxed times on a romantic date. She shared a bit about the shop, but avoided discussion of her new online venture, not wanting to ruin the mood. Jacob had tended to get jealous recently, and since this was their time together, she preferred to steer away from sensitive subjects.
At the restaurant, they were seated in the main dining room. “The best experience is probably eating at the sushi bar,” Jacob said. “But I’d rather have more privacy tonight.”
Vivienne commented to the waiter about the décor, and was told, “It is intentionally sparse to act as a blank canvas on which the food will be allotted space to shine.”
They ordered sake with the meal. “I requested that Chef Masa serve us, and he has agreed,” Jacob said.
    “He will do that?”
“Yes, it can be requested. Although he isn’t always able to do it.”
With the assistance of the waiter, they chose particular items from the menu. The chef came out, and spoke in a soft tone about each one as he placed it on the table. Each dish was a palate pleaser, beautifully presented. The exquisite food transcended mere eating, and was more like art.
Although simple in appearance, the cuisine was elegant in taste and texture. The staff quietly cleared dishes, walking about the tables with ballet-type movements. The crab was sweet and delicate in texture. The seaweed soup was delicious, and Jacob liked the saba enough to comment: “This smoked saba is brilliant. It’s non-traditional, but the flavors blend well. The smokiness is not overpowering.”
“You are more familiar with Japanese food than I am,” Vivienne said. “But I like the saba too. Have you been to Japan?”
“That’s one place I haven’t been,” Jacob said. “But I enjoy the food, and I’ve been to many fine restaurants. Still, this is one of the best.”
So far the evening had been the stuff of dreams, and Vivienne had the rest of the evening to look forward to. She wondered what Jacob had in mind for later, or if he’d planned ahead at all. The playroom wasn’t a date, so maybe he went along with the urges of the moment. If so, he was certainly good at improvising.

After the meal concluded with white truffle ice cream, they left and went to Jacob’s penthouse. Vivienne was a bit giddy from the aesthetic dining experience, and felt high after only
