joins me. We are slightly ridiculous in the most hysterical way ever.
“You think this is going to actually work?” Star asks me, looking less than hopeful. I don’t blame her. In the back of my head the idea is all well and nice and certainly may work, but if we are all being honest, it probably won’t, knowing our luck. And knowing the type of guy Vince is, he wouldn’t let me get my claws into Sinners & Swingers all those years ago, I doubt he will hand it over today.
“I’m trying on that whole optimism shit for a change. So, I am not going to answer that question.” I say with a smile. “Shit!” I remember the Skype interviews I have. I’ve been putting them off since last week. There is no way I can get away with re-scheduling them again. “We gotta run. I forgot I had a laundry list of interviews this afternoon and I am sure Journey is at our house already.”
Star cocks her head to the side.
“Journey?” she asks.
“She is going to watch Marley while Levi and I do the interviews together. I don’t think he trusts me to not throw every qualified candidate under the bus.” I shrug. “I’m having my long lost sister over for dinner tonight, if you and Chrome wanna come too.”
“Maybe we will. It will be a nice distraction from all of this.” Rounding the corner into the living room, Levi is still on the phone with the lawyer hashing out the details of the offer we are going to make to Vince. I nod and he picks up Marley and joins me.
“Where is Rainbow?” It strikes me as odd that Star’s daughter is nowhere to be found today, but with everything else going on, I didn’t even notice.
“Paisley and Diesel took her for a couple hours to keep Cash occupied. They are becoming partners in crime these days. I really will start to fear for my life in another couple years.” Star laughs.
“I don’t blame you one bit. See you tonight.”
“Mr. Emery, thank you for joining us this afternoon. I apologize for re-scheduling last week.” Levi and I sit in front of the computer screen. God I love it when he puts on a suit. They fit him so nice and he rarely has any reason to wear them anymore. I have to keep myself from drooling a little.
I laugh to myself. I am wearing a beautiful black button-down blouse with yoga pants. HA! Sucker can’t see below my tits and I like it that way. Hell, I could wear no pants and no one would ever know. Next interview, I am totally doing that!
“No problem at all. I realize you both are extremely busy,” the older gentleman with salt and pepper colored hair answers. I already don’t like him, so I let Levi take the lead in the interview while I scratch down notes on the notepad in my lap. The half hour flies by in the blink of an eye and the Skype interview disconnects.
“So what do you think?” Levi asks and he should know already.
“I think I am not going to wear any pants for my next interview. That would be hysterical!” I laugh to myself, dodging his question. He isn’t as amused though.
“While I like the idea of you wearing no pants, that is not what I meant, Seven. Just answer the damn question.” Levi is stern, meaning all business.
“Don’t like him.” I say without the slightest bit of interest.
“You know what Seven? You don’t like any of these guys!” And it clicks. He is right. I don’t like any of these guys to take my job. I don’t want a man replacing me. No man could ever replace me and that is why I have shot down every last person we interviewed.
“I don’t want a man to replace me. We got any women on that list?” I look over at his list of qualified applicants, scanning for any female names.
“I want a list of female applicants before I interview again.” I stand up and begin to unbutton the blouse, tossing it into a heap on the floor. “Lyric is going to be here in two hours. I invited Star and Chrome to come too, so I am going to have to make extra food.”
“You know you can’t just strip naked in
