the next sixty years or so.
“Oh Jesus, I know that look, you think you are some kind of super stud because you fucked our sweet woman into unconsciousness. But don’t forget I was helping, you are not claiming all the thunder for this storm, my friend.” Bryant’s words were softened by his grin and laughing eyes.
“Help me get her settled, and then I really need to check in with Colt and see what they’ve been able to learn from the jerks they cuffed and stuffed earlier. I’m glad our guys got to them first, and that we don’t have all the legal restrictions that the deputies would have had to deal with. And if they got a bit banged up on the way to the local pokey, well, sometimes those things just can’t be helped, know what I mean?” He was almost giddy after the mind-blowing sex and knowing his team had secured the intruders.
Bryant was helping tuck blankets in around Rissa so she wouldn’t get chilled when he asked, “Are you going to try to go in when they are questioned?”
“No, I’m worried about them being a diversion, it was almost too easy. I don’t want to risk leaving you two here alone.” At Bryant’s frown, Mitch rolled his eyes and continued, “Don’t give me that look. It’s not that I don’t think you could or would take care of her, it’s just that it is always a strategic error to allow any protection detail to be divided. Remember, even though we both worked for the military, this was more my area of expertise—you build stuff, and I protect it and blow it up.” Laughing to himself, he slowly dressed and slipped back into the control room leaving Bryant to watch over Rissa while he checked in to see how things were going.

Kat had been pacing back and forth in her suite until Jenna was sure she was going to wear a hole in the carpet. “Come on, Kat, sit down, if my Neanderthal brothers know you are doing this—and you and I both know they’ll have the cameras on in here—they’re going to take my head off for not keeping you calm, and I just don’t want to deal with them today. So give me a break and take a load off.” Jenna almost laughed out loud at the affronted expression on Kat’s face.
“Are you fucking kidding me, Jenna? Really? You’re going to side with them now? After all the years we’ve been best friends, you want to switch sides? That’s just plain mean. I can’t even believe you’d add to my anguish…I’m big as a barn, I waddle, I’m bored, I have a case of cabin fever that has me ready to jump the next flight out of Denver and lie on a beach looking like the whale that I am for the next couple of months. Hell, at least then I could get some cute cabana boy to deliver me virgin drinks with little umbrellas in them, fruity concoctions that would allow me to at least pretend they were real drinks. I might even hire someone with a forklift to help me in and out of a hammock out close to the water…” Sighing, she plopped down on the sofa and swung her feet up on to the low table holding her orange juice.
Jenna was about to laugh when she noticed tears in Kat’s eyes. “Hey, girlfriend, what’s with the waterworks?” She quickly moved to Kat’s side and wrapped her in a hug. “Talk to me, Kat…What’s this about?”
Sniffling, Kat leaned out of Jenna’s hug and looked at her friend. “I am just so tired of being tired all the time. I am huge! Why? I’m only six months along and look at me! Some women are barely showing by this time…” Her voice broke, and she started to cry in earnest. Jenna silently bet her brothers would be coming through the door in less than thirty seconds.
Just as Jenna started to speak, the door of the suite crashed open, and both Alex and Zach rushed to Kat’s side. Alex was the first to reach her. “What’s wrong with you, love? Do you feel all right? Are you ill? We can call Doc Woods and have him on Skype right away or we can send someone down to get him with a tractor. Talk to us.”
