black fuck-me heels are all me.
I walk out to meet Nathan and he eyes me from head to toe. “You look beautiful. Maybe too beautiful.”
    “Thank you.”
I smell his intoxicating aroma of musk and woods. He could take me now and I wouldn’t put up a fight.
“You take my breath away.” He plays with one of my curls, twirling it around his finger, then gently lets it go. “Just intoxicating.”
My head whirls. “Sweeping me off my feet again?”
He smiles as his hands run down the sides of my body. “Yes, would you like proof?”
“I would, but later. Let’s go while we still can.”

Chapter Ten

~Nathan~

BEFORE BRYER GETS in, I have a call to make.
“Yes, this is Nathaniel James. I have an item being delivered to my room tonight. I’m just confirming it’ll be here before ten pm. Yes, that’s right. It’s a surprise. Thank you.”
This will show Bryer I was thinking of her all day.
We arrive late. Though I know this is going to be more of a business event, I still want every man to know whose arm Bryer’s on, as we walk through the door.
“You’re turning every man’s head.” I growl, but she doesn’t leave my side.
“Don’t worry. I’m yours,” she says.
“Let’s head towards the bar. There’s appetizers, plus I’ll introduce you to some business associates.”
“Let’s.” I place my hand on her back as we walk to the bar.
“White wine and a seltzer water, please. Hungry? Because I know what I want.” I lick my lips.
“Let me get back to you on that,” my clever girl says.
“Should we make the rounds?” I raise a brow.
    “Oh, yes, but behave.”
“You wound me.” I put my hand over my chest.
“Okay, let’s meet all these men you’re doing business with.”
“Mr. Foster,” Bryer greets one of her colleagues. “Great doing business with you today.”
“You too, Bryer.” I watch him checking out every curve, his eyes never meet hers, not once. How fuckin’ dare the bastard. Something fires in me and suddenly I’m seeing red.
“This is my friend, Nathan James,” We shake hands, and I’m a little more rough than necessary.
    “I see,” says Mr. Foster.
    “I’m sure you do.”
Foster gasps at my sarcasm. “I’m not sure what you mean.”
Obviously this isn’t my finest hour.
Bryer pulls me aside. “Have you lost your mind?” As Mr. Foster watches, completely annoyed.
“Mmm hmm. Watching every man drool all over you is a challenge.”
“It’s inexcusable. Remember what I have to watch when you work.” She huffs.
    Fuck, she’s right.
It takes the fight right out of me. I understand what I have to do now. So I spend the next hour making it up to her, acting like a grownup and making the rounds, nodding my head and shaking hands politely to make it up to her.
“I hear they have a small band in the hotel. We could sneak away and catch their show.”
“That depends.” She smiles, her eyes wondering to the entrance. ”If you can keep the good behavior going, because here comes a huge test.”
“Bryer, dear,” a voice calls out and I feel her tense.
“Hello, Walter. I’d like to introduce my friend, Nathan James. Nathan, this is Walter Atkins, one of my clients. We worked together today.”
Walter leans in to kiss her cheek. She takes a sharp breath at his forwardness as I slide my arm around her waist and pull her in. He’s either a brave man or fucking stupid.
“Nathan,” Walter says, holding his hand out for me to shake. I just stare at it. I’d rather punch him in the face. Apparently my politeness has the shelf life.
Bryer looks at me, questioning my hesitance.
“The boyfriend,” I clarify and finally reach out to shake his hand.
“Bryer, there are plenty of festivities if you’re up to it,” he says. “Save a dance for me.” And with that, he walks away.
    “Like hell,” I whisper.
“What was that?” She smiles, knowing exactly what I said.
    “Let’s find the band.”
    “You dance? You are
