gaze on her.
“Touch there.” Rabika indicated a flashing icon on the holoboard in front of her.
When Dallas hesitated the alien woman whispered her encouragement, “Go ahead answer him.”
Her senses were tingling with warning but she reached for the flashing indicator.
“Yes.” Dallas said startled by the loudness of her own voice. “We all did.”
“Do you accept any others as victor this day?” he asked slowly.
What exactly did he mean by that and how was she supposed to answer his question.
“Uh… no...”  The tingling turned to an uneasy sensation which began to settle in the pit of her stomach. “A blind monkey could tell you won.”
“And do you accept me as victor?”
What did he mean, accept him ?
She hedged, “Yes. I mean again it’s pretty obvious you won. The other guy is still lying there unconscious, which by the way I think a medic or something should be called to check him out.”
She glanced towards the unmoving Keito but was quickly distracted as another cheer wrenched from the crowd and Dallas turned to her companion with a questioning look in her eyes.
“Let it be known from this day forward that Dal’las of E’rth , has accepted Remar of the clan Falak as victor. Now their joining is complete.”
“Wait, what?” she whipped back around in time to see Remar bow in her direction before moving to assist with his injured opponent.
“What’s going on?” She asked as Rabika hit a button on the holoboard which muted her voice to any outside their booth.
“You are now joined as bond mate with my brother. Welcome to the family sister.” She answered not hiding her excitement.

As they left the stadium Dallas half listened while Rabika chatted excitedly about the events to transpire over the next few hours. The unease she’d felt formed into a full-fledged ball of anxiety in the pit of her stomach.
    Bond mate?
Dallas wasn’t sure how much time had elapsed since she’d been brought back from the stadium to her room, but she kept reliving those last moments as she realized the claim challenge had been about her all along.
If she understood correctly then it meant she was possibly married… to him. An alien.
How the hell was she going to get out this jam?
As she sat back silently witnessing the buzz of activity taking place in her bedroom she could feel the walls closing in on her. Was there a window of opportunity for her to correct the wrong? Surely there must be some sort of out clause. Several scenarios played out in her head even as the dressmaker, with Rabika’s assistance, helped her into what she realized was a ceremonial outfit.

    Chapter Eight
“What do you think?” The dressmaker asked after completing the finishing touches on the ensemble.
Dallas looked herself over in the floor length reflection.
This was her wedding day and she couldn’t have felt any more detached than she did at that moment.
The mirror image didn’t look like her, at least not the way she was back on earth.
The mid-length bodice featured a high collar, long flowing sleeves and a midriff cut. Two deep, thigh high slits were on each side of the matching skirt which prevented the clingy floor length material from hampering her movements.
Rabika clapped excitedly at the reveal. “It’s better than I could have imagined.”
“You make an exquisite Leila ,” the dressmaker commented.
“ Leila ?” Dallas muttered absently turning away from the stranger staring back at her.
“Aye. Leila is a term used for the bond mate of a High Commander,” Rabika explained. “Come, Leila Dal’las it is time to go.”
Bond mate , the word echoed in her head.
    ***
Remar found himself glancing at the entrance which would deliver his soul companion as he had done multiple times since taking his seat. He did not need a time keeper to know they were late in arriving. Was something wrong? Had Dal’las refused to leave her room? He did not want to have her presence
