about them before that. So are you calling my sergeant at arms a liar?”

“ I guess I am.” Miguel said matter of factly.

I could see the anger in Shadow building up as the conversation continued. Things continued to escalate as the call progressed.

“ I’m not dealing with your bullshit, Miguel. Let’s meet in person. I’ll even bring Animal to the meet so we can get to the bottom of this.”

At first Miguel refused but then Shadow convinced him that if he wanted to continue doing business, the meeting had to take place. Reluctantly, Miguel agreed and they arranged to meet in Mexico. I hated that they were even discussing the Black Wings going back to Mexico to deal with the cartel as soon as I heard the words come from Shadow’s mouth. He hung up the phone after they agreed to meet in the desert near the cartel’s headquarters.

“ Why did you do that?!” I exclaimed to Shadow.

“ Do what?” he asked, as if he didn’t know what I was talking about.

“ You know what! You know that I hate you going to Mexico. Remember the explosion?” I hissed at him.

“ Yeah but Santiago is dead. We’re dealing with Miguel now. Everything went fine with the first meeting that I had with Miguel. I expect the same with this one.”

    “ You’re stupid!” I yelled at him.

“ Babe, they need to learn that when you’re dealing with a motorcycle club, you have to give respect. They WILL respect us.”

“ If they respected you and the MC, they wouldn’t have tried to pull a fast one on you.”

“ Do you see my cut? I didn’t earn this badge for nothing. Around here, you give respect and you’ll get respect. The same goes for the cartel.”

I rolled my eyes at him. He thought that his cut meant the same to the cartel as it did to him and the rest of the MC. I knew that he was dead wrong, but there was no use in telling him that.

“ I’m gonna go babe. I need to get to the headquarters and set up a meeting with the MC before we go to Mexico so everyone knows what’s going on.”

“ I thought you were just going to Mexico for a meeting? Why do you need to talk to the MC before you go.”

“ Look Tara, you’ve done this before. You know how shit can get bad. I’m not going to let anyone jeopardize my club.”

“ You and your club. You know, I still don’t know how much you make. What do they pay you anyway? Can’t you just quit?”

“ As the president, I will not quit and leave the MC. That would be a total disgrace to me, and to them. The cartel would definitely think the Black Wings are weak if their president just up and left them, especially to go start a family life.”

“ What do they even pay you?” I demanded.

“ Enough. You and the baby will never have to worry about money or bills. I make plenty of money to support us without you ever having to work.”

“ Well if you’re paid so well, you should have money stashed away. Don’t you worry that you might not be around for the baby one day?”

“ No. I will always be here. Nothing will happen to me. The MC would never let that happen.”

He knelt down beside the couch and kissed me softly. I couldn’t even look at him. Why wouldn’t he tell me how much money he made? Why did he want to live such a dangerous life? I loved him so much and never wanted anything to happen to him. He picked up my chin so that I would have to look at him.

“ Baby, don’t worry about things. If you don’t want to come to Mexico with the MC, you don’t have to. I gotta go. Please don’t worry. I love you.”

    “ I love you, too” I whispered.

“ Till the end. I promise.” he whispered back to me as he planted one last kiss on my lips before walking out the door. I watched him slip on his cut and disappear behind the door as it closed. His bike fired up and I heard the garage door. I walked over to the living room window as I watched him ride
