Chapter
Six

The two of them got dressed in slightly awkward
silence after Claire had cleaned his juices off her hand and he had cleaned up
himself. Once they were fully dressed they finally turned to look at each other
and, quite unexpectedly, burst into laughter.

“Well, that was something,” she said finally.

She walked up to him and playfully punched his
arm. It was something she would have done back when they were in high school
and had somehow become close friends. But he found it a somewhat odd thing to
do now especially given what they had just finished doing.

Kurt kissed her goodnight before leaving.
Claire watched him drive away from her front door. As he drove back to his
parents’ house he reflected on the night. It was amazing, their little sexual
escapade at the end not included. If he did include that, well, it was all the
better. Walking around town with Claire talking about so many things had been
like reconnecting with an old friend in a way he had never experienced.

As he pulled into the driveway and quietly made
his way into his bedroom, he realized his young teenage self would have given anything to be with Claire like he just
had. He cringed at the thought of how many times he had fantasized her hand
around his cock instead of his own. He dropped down onto his bed, still fully
clothed, and looked up at the ceiling with a smile before drifting off to
sleep.

The following morning his mother, who had fixed
him a delicious and full breakfast, asked how his “little date” went. Kurt
would have rolled his eyes and corrected her, telling her it wasn’t a date, but
the truth was that it had felt an awful lot like one even before they wound up
on her bed. Of course that wasn’t something he wanted to tell his mother
either, so he swallowed a mouthful of food and responded with, “Really good.”

She glared at him. “Kurt, you should know by
know your mother isn’t going to take such a simple answer!” She pulled a strip
of bacon off his plate and took a sizeable bite before gingerly placing it back
atop the pancake he was eating.

He sighed and took a sip of orange juice.

“I know,” he groaned. So he told her they had
just wandered around the town square. He told her they talked for hours and
mentioned, as quickly as he could, she had given him a tour of her house when
he dropped her off. His mother raised a suspicious eyebrow but he pointedly
ignored it.

“You still got feelings for her, don’t you?”
she asked softly.

Kurt nearly choked on his food. His mother
always asked forward questions and had always been involved in his life to some
degree or another, but he wouldn’t have expected her to ask that question. But
as he smacked on his chest to suppress a fake cough and attempted to catch his
breath, he realized there was no real reason for him to have been taken by
surprise by her question. It had been, after all, quite a normal question for
her to ask considering she had been all too aware of how in love with Claire he
was in high school.

“I’ll take that as a yes,” she said smartly
before getting up to fetch the pitcher of orange juice from the refrigerator
and pour some more in his glass. She poured some in her glass too before
putting the pitcher back into the refrigerator.

When she took her seat again Kurt took it upon
himself to clarify. “I’m not still in love with her, you know.”

“Oh, Kurt honey, don’t be ridiculous. Of course
I don’t think you’re still in love with her. That doesn’t mean that seeing her
didn’t wake any of the old feelings back in you,” she told him. She was
absolutely right. It was that moment that it occurred to him she had invited
Claire to his party not just because they had been close friends in high
school.
