felt hands on her own hips.  She tried to kick her feet, hoping to provide a moving target.  The man let go.  Stars exploded and her head snapped forward as a meaty fist smashed into the back of it.  Before she could recover, the man had entered her, his fingers digging into her sides as she began to struggle again.
The other men in the room began to cheer loudly.  She looked up again.  Tears clouded her vision.  She saw Heather struggling against her attacker.  This man was smaller than the first.  He was older, his gray mustache curled up in a sinister smile.  Tina watched as he landed a series of punches on the back of the younger woman’s head and neck.  Heather stopped moving.  Her head slumped forward, blood and spittle dripped onto the floor.
The abuse lasted for another forty-five minutes.  When it was over, she looked to Heather.  She could see the girl was also broken.  Her body convulsed as she sobbed.  Tears and blood continued to drip from her face.  She looked to the older woman for strength.  Her eyes pleaded for help.  But there was none.  Tina didn’t have anything left to give the young girl.  She just wanted to die.
Andrew strode into the room.  The sinister grin he always wore seemed even more menacing now.  “Have you two had enough?”  The girls looked at him in disbelief.  Was he going to cut them loose?  “Well, speak up,” he laughed.  “We could keep you like this until you’re ready for a second round.”
It was Heather who spoke first.  “I have,” was all she could muster.  The man’s little grin grew into a smile.  He looked to Tina.  “You?” he asked.  The woman just nodded her head.  “Good,” he said excitedly.  “Now we can get down to business.”
He turned his head and yelled for everyone to come into the room.  The men assembled near the door, Andrew was on the opposite side of the room, the woman in front and to each side of him.  “Well done, gentlemen.  These two women are responsible for the death of one of our brothers, and you have dealt them swift and severe punishment.  They have both agreed that your punishment has taught them a lesson.”  The men began raucously cheering and laughing.
“But,” he interrupted them.  “These women killed a man, yet they both still draw breath.  Justice has not been served.  There must be a life for a life.  So, I ask you: Which one of these women will pay for Ernie’s life?”
A small man wearing a pair of glasses stepped forward as he spoke.  “I say Ernie was twice the man that these two pieces of shit are.  I say the two together might equal one of Ernie.  I say they both pay.”  The crowd again began cheering loudly.
“Then it is settled,” Andrew announced.  He turned to a big man named Raul.  His beard was greasy and still had little bits of food in it.  Each arm was decorated with a simple black and white tattoo.  The right held a laughing theatrical mask, while the left held the same mask that appeared to be crying.
“If I don’t think you made them suffer enough, I promise you will owe me the difference,” he whispered.  The rest of the men shuffled out of the room.
Raul Jimenez had been a butcher before the world fell apart.   That was after he was released from jail for assault with a deadly weapon.  What no one knew was that Raul Jimenez was actually a serial killer.  He had been responsible for the death and dismemberment of at least seven homeless people in Jackson, Mississippi over the past year.  He strode out, whistling as he did.
Tina didn’t hear what Andrew had told the big Mexican guy.  It didn’t matter, she thought.  He was going to kill her and there was nothing she could do about it.  She wasn’t even sure she wanted to stop it.  She had given up.
When the man returned, he was carrying several knives.  One was large with a double edged blade, and the other had a giant curved blade.  He set both down on a chair in front
