up my purse off the floor and stride across the room, because if I don’t leave now, I’ll do something I’ll regret.
“See you at the party!” he yells after me when I’m almost at the door. I don’t reply and just rush into the night. Tears sting my eyes, but I push them back. God, what’s wrong with me? How can I be this conflicted about the man who ruined my life? But he also unlocked something in me that I didn’t know existed, and I still remember all the times he held me, caressed my hair, and told me that he’d do anything for me. Could he become a better man for me one day? There’s only silence to answer my question.

I throw my purse onto the cabinet as soon as I get home. Isaac immediately appears in the hallway, his brow furrowed.
“How did it go?” he asks, eyeing me carefully, his arms crossed.
“Terribly,” I say. “We should just stop this before anything bad happens. I can’t... I don’t think we should play games with Archer. He’s just... We’re never going to achieve anything.” I head toward the living room, but Isaac blocks my path.
“What are you talking about? What did he say?” He narrows his eyes.
“He said he had something in mind for us at the party, and I have a bad feeling about it. We can pretend that you’re my slave, but only up to a certain point. I won’t... I won’t let him do anything to you.” I push past him and he follows me.
“Oh come on, there’s not much he can do!” Isaac raises his voice.
“We shouldn’t be having this conversation right now.” My whole insides feel as if they were turned upside down and I want to jump out of my skin. Every part of me itches, but I know there’s nothing to scratch. “You’re still going through withdrawal and I... I can’t do this right now.”
“No! Tell me what happened.” Isaac’s face is unyielding. “Something happened. I know it. What are you not telling me?”
“Isaac, please...” I shake my head. “Tomorrow, okay?”
“Why? So you can come up with a convenient lie? No, tell me now. I want to know.”
“Nothing happened, I swear. All I’m saying is that what we’re doing has become too risky, and I don’t want to do it anymore. Can’t you just understand that? Or are you so caught up in your revenge plan that you can’t see straight? Wait until your mind clears.”
Isaac snorts. “Oh, I can’t see straight? What about you? Did you enjoy it too much, is that it? Did you want to stay with him? Did you want him to fuck you?”
“That’s none of your business! Nothing happened!” I run my hand through my hair. I can’t stay. Not when Isaac is here.
    “So I’m right.”
“I can’t stay here.” I rush back into the hallway, but before I can reach the door, Isaac grabs my arm. I turn around, glaring at him. “What?” I snap. “Are you going to stop me from going for a drink?” I expect him to let go of me, but he doesn’t.
“You’re going to find a new guy to add to your list, aren’t you?” Isaac tilts his head. “You’ll fuck someone instead of Archer.”
I want to deny it, but I’m sure the truth has already shown on my face. “What does it matter even if I do?”
“It does.” He drops his hand, his eyes intent on mine. “If it’s just sex you seek to release the tension, then why the hell don’t you do it with me? Don’t you think I need it too?”
“What? No, we can’t... It would be... too complicated.” My breath hitches, my eyes bulging.
“No, it wouldn’t. It won’t mean anything. It’s just sex.” His face is deadly serious. “What does it matter if you do it with me or with some random guy from a bar?”
“You don’t know what you’re saying.” I want to turn away from him, but he places his hand on my cheek and pulls me in for a kiss. The soft touch of his lips against mine is not enough, so I slide my tongue into his mouth, deepening the kiss until we can both barely breathe.
“Show me what you do with them...” he says
