major Doctor Who fan, I knew this because I had been coerced into watching an episode or ten.  So I wanted to get her a DW theme-gifted.  I planned for about three weeks out to give time for delivery.  I ordered her a DW bow tie because I thought she’d get a kick out of it because of the t-shirt she was wearing the first time we went out.  I also got her a coffee mug that said “Keep Calm I’m the Doctor,” and a TARDIS blanket.  I figured she’d get the references.  She was always trying to explain it to me but I didn’t get it.

    “What’s a TARDIS?”
“It stands for Time and Relative Dimension in Space.  It’s his spaceship and time machine.”
    “Why does he time travel?”
    “He’s a time lord, that’s why!”

I figured I’d never get it but she loved it so I wanted her to have it.  Our plan was to have a quiet dinner together on Christmas Day.  I was going to go to my parents to spend Christmas Eve with them, then I was going come back and stay with Steph.  I couldn’t wait until she saw her gift. I also included a little something that was really more for me, a blue DW lingerie set.

It’s always good to get home and see my parents.  It’s hard to see them getting older.  I told myself that I need to visit more, especially since they don’t live far at all.  Life just gets busy.  My mom is always excited to see me and fusses over me.  Dad is more laid back but I know he likes when I come home as well.  We had dinner and exchanged gifts.  I gave mom a tennis bracelet and dad got a new set of golf clubs.  They both gave me money.  Each one of them slipped me a card that was signed by both of them.  They are hilarious.  They worry that I’m not making a good living.  Parents will always be parents, I guess.

I left a little later than I planned to on Christmas Day and was running late getting to Stephane’s.  For some reason I couldn't get a signal until I got close to Steph’s. I just figured that it was because the network was busy with everyone making phone calls.  As I was pulling up to Steph’s my phone dinged.  I had a couple voice mails.  I’ll check them later, I thought.  I grabbed my gift for Steph and walked to her door.  As soon as I knocked, she flung the door open and met me in the hall.

    “Hey baby, what’s up?”
“Wyatt I’ve been trying to call you!”
    She sounded a little frantic.
    “Babe, what’s wrong.”
“Remember the reason I told you that I got this three bedroom apartment.”
“Yea, you said that your parents have a tendency to just drop…ohhhh.”
“Yea, they dropped in this morning. I was trying to call you and give you a heads up.”
“Hey parents love me. It’s ok.”
    “You want to meet them?”
    "Absolutely."
“Umm…Wyatt, we’ve only been together for a few months, do you really think we are there?”
“Steph I told you from the beginning that I wasn’t letting you go anywhere, anytime soon.  Ok?”
    “Ok.”
    “Can we go in now?”

My parents absolutely loved Wyatt.  Mom told me how gorgeous she thought he was.

“Honey if I was ten years younger, and I didn’t have your father, you’d have some competition on your hands.”
“Ew, mom! Ew. That’s just…no.  Just…no!”  She cracked up at that.
“He is a cutie. Is he good to you sweetie? That’s what I really care about?”
“Yes mom, he’s great. I really really like him.”
“Well if you like him, then I love him.”

Dad started off giving him a hard time but as soon as Wyatt mentioned that he played football in college, Dad instantly changed his tune.  They discussed college and pro teams, stats of this player and that player, bowl games, etc. I was starting to think that dad might be a little infatuated with him.

After dinner we all sat down and exchanged gifts.  Wyatt apologized for not having anything for them.  They both understood since it was a surprise visit.  I opened my
