analytical work and wanted to know more about it. It was arranged that she would travel up to Cheshire to familiarise herself with the work and to discuss Rendlesham matters with me. I shared my findings with Brenda and then produced the graph I had created for the Woodbridge area. Brenda had brought along seven recent UFO reports from the area. I think she was impressed when they were found to correspond well with the lines on the timings graph. This graph is now shown as Fig.28. Brenda Butler’s reports are shown as ringed points. The 1956 radar/visuals, dealt with previously, are depicted by two diagonal crosses linked by a dashed vertical line. The lower cross represents the time when a UFO was first detected approaching from the sea and the upper one corresponds to the time when the aerial activity seemed to cease. Both these points lie on predicted lines and the dashed line linking them suggests that other programmed delivery/retrieval paths could have been utilised during that activity period of some four-and-a-half hours.
During the years following my meeting with Brenda Butler, more definitive information about the Rendlesham happenings became available to me and these reports were processed as I received them. It seemed that strange happenings had occurred between December 27th and December 30th, 1980. Altogether, I judged that there had been six key timings, two on the night of 27th/28th and the remainder on the night of 29th/30th. I plotted these times appropriately and got the results which are shown as diagonal crosses at the extreme right of the Fig.28 graph. The events seem to have been linked to two delivery/retrieval paths from space, Nos. 1 and 2, and these had been celestially linked to the position of the sun and to one of the fixed orientations (11:00 hr. RA.) relative to the stars. I felt that this result was a very significant one and validated Lt. Col. Halt’s accounts. In this way, t he Rendlesham happenings have been demonstrated to have been perfectly consistent with the recognised pattern of programmed SAC happenings on the global scene. The strangeness of the events was also consistent. The first step towards understanding the phenomenon is to concede, as I did in the late 1960s, that the technology being displayed to us is definitely not of this world. The burning question is why so many people seem to expect it to be?

Judging from the evidence collected over more than thirty years, it is likely that most encounters with SACs involve fully automated exploration craft without occupants . These craft seem to employ terrain-following navigation techniques during their mission time within the atmosphere and have built-in artificial intelligence , which enables them to investigate interesting events and specimens during their clandestine activities. They also seem able to respond to human attempts to attract attention by the use of light signals. Members of the American Center for the Study of Extraterrestrial Intelligence ( CSETI) , with whom the author and his wife had personal contact during the crop circle investigations of the 1990s, appear to have had considerable success in initiating light signal dialogues with strange aerial craft, sometimes at close quarters.
Car Stops.
Similar craft seem to have been responsible for stopping motorcars on numerous occasions, by neutralising the cars’ electrical systems. Typically, during such car-stops, the occupants have found their cars surrounded by a powerful beam of light, which was being projected from a dark object hovering directly above them.
