The Look In His Eyes (Jasmine & Zack, #1)
will be back, I promise.’ He leaned forward and gave her a kiss.
‘I know,’ she said and she did but she just didn’t feel it.
It took him about twenty minutes to get dressed and say his goodbyes to her. Jasmine watched him at the door as he jumped into his car and drove off. It was going to be a battle and she knew it but she was determined to make it work for her and for him.

Chapter Nine
T he lights were on when Zack arrived home. Had he left them on the whole time he’d been away? He couldn’t remember but it didn’t bother him much. It wouldn’t be the first time he’d done that. He put the key into the slot and unlocked the door. He dropped his stuff in the passage, pulled off his shoes, loosened his collar and headed for the kitchen, but just as he was passing the living room he stopped and turned.
‘Hey baby,’ Kimberly’s voice drifted across the room. ‘Did you miss me?’ She held a glass of wine in her hand. ‘I opened a bottle of wine for us.’ She nodded at the wine bottle that had been settled on the glass table.
‘What are you doing here?’ he asked.
‘I’ve come home, I missed you.’
He walked slowly into the living room about to protest when she stood up wearing a very short dress that revealed her long lovely legs.
‘What’s the matter honey?’ She swung her arms around his neck the glass still in her hand. ‘I had time to think and I realised that I made a mistake. You and I are good together.’ She leaned forward and met his lips and for a moment he was lost in her sweet soft lips.
‘I can’t do this.’ He pulled back.
‘Oh honey what’s the matter?’ She walked towards the table and poured him a glass. ‘Here have some.’
He looked at the glass and then at Kimberly. How could she do this now? Just when he’d started to feel so strongly about Jasmine. She nodded at the glass and he took it, the wine was a welcomed relief.
‘Come sit with me, we need to talk.’ She sat down, crossed her legs and patted the space beside her.
He watched her carefully; it was hard not to want her there and then, but instead of sitting right beside her he sat in the seat opposite her.
‘Awww, what’s the matter, still angry I left you?’
‘You could say that, I mean what did you expect that I’d just let you back in? That I’ve been sitting here waiting for you? I moved on too.’
‘Oh, you met someone?’ she asked a little amused.
‘I have so it would be best that you leave.’
She took a sip of the wine and smiled at him. ‘Dump her.’ She kept her smile.
‘Excuse me? Are you out of your mind?’
‘No,’ she said calmly. ‘Are you?’
    ‘What’s that supposed to mean?’
She smiled at him as she took the wine into her mouth.
‘I don’t have time for this.’ He shifted, put the glass down and stood up.
‘You will,’ she said. ‘You will dump her and you and I can get back together and get married and be the power couple we’ve always wanted to be.’
‘Why the hell would you want that, clearly you left me or have you forgotten that? I thought you didn’t want me, that my sister was too much for you!’
‘That’s not it Zack. Don’t you get it? I have the secret no one knows that will destroy you.’
He gazed at her with rage in his eyes. ‘You wouldn’t!’
‘Oh yes I would.’ She was calm and almost sounded playful. ‘It’s simple, you dump her, we get married and we live happily ever after.’
‘I honesty don’t know why you’re doing this?’
‘Are you serious?’ she threw back her head laughing. ‘We both know how much you’re worth and how –’
‘Is that what this is about? Money? How much do you want, I’ll right you a cheque right now.’
‘Nope, that’s not what I want. I don’t want bits of it, I want to be your wife so I can own all of it or at least half.’ She giggled.
She put down her glass and walked in the direction of the stairs. ‘Are you coming to bed?’ she smiled slyly.
