just yet. A little clarity around the
whole I’m-not-a-raging-whore would be enough. “Adam,” she began. “I need you to
know that I never jump into bed with someone so quickly. I don’t know what the
hell that was, how it happened so…fast.”
Wrapping a hand around her hip Adam pulled her back against him.
Their bodies merged together again and Eva shivered. “Then I feel even more
honored than I already did,” he said. “I wanted this the first moment I saw
you, I’m not going to deny that. It’s a bit quick, true, but it happens that
way sometimes. When it’s right, it’s right.”
“I’m a little…” Eva started to say but nothing sounded right in
her head. I feel like a slut? I’m not usually so easy? None of it worked.
“A little what? Happy? Satisfied?” he asked. “I hope so, because
I feel fantastic. All last night as we sat across from each other I was
desperate to reach across and kiss you, feel your lips against mine.” He paused
to squeeze her hip and brushed a kiss across her lips. Eva barely contained a
whimper. “When I went to bed I stroked myself thinking about you, imagining
what you’d feel like beneath me. I thought about your amazing breasts as I
pumped myself to orgasm. And Eva I can tell you right now that the fantasy
wasn’t even close to the reality. We should have done this as soon as we met.”
The heat in his words was enough to relax her, she laughed,
embarrassment fading to be replaced with absolute satisfaction. How could she
regret anything they’d done when he spoke to her like that? No, I can’t
regret it, not now, not right at this moment. Later maybe, but not now.
“I just can’t believe this has happened.”
He pulled her even closer. “It was fated from the moment we laid
eyes upon one another. I looked across and saw you and...”
“And what?” she asked. Lost in a haze of relaxation she wanted to
keep him talking. Something about his voice pulled at something indefinable
inside of her.
“Your eyes, those amazing eyes and your hair, it was begging for
me to set it free.”
Laughter gurgled up and Eva buried her face in his chest. “I hate
my hair loose.”
“It must never be tied away in my presence again,” he stated. “In
fact I will dispose of all bands and ribbons and what not to make sure of it.”
Laughing again Eva wrapped her fingers around his. Minutes
passed, minutes of simply breathing each other in and glorying in the moment.
She could feel herself beginning to drift into what she knew would be a deep
sated sleep when something else occurred to her. The final piece of the puzzle
maybe.
“What’s your full name?” she asked, stifling a yawn. “It seems
like I should know that about the man I’ve just slept with.”
At first he did not reply and Eva thought maybe he was already
asleep or maybe she was, but after a moment his free hand moved into her hair
and began rubbing in the most perfect circular motions. If she’d been a cat Eva
would have purred.
“Winterwood,” he said at last. “Adam Winterwood.”

Chapter
Eighteen

By the time Eva awoke—after the third bout of explosive sex—he
was gone, if not for the fact she was still in his bed she could easily have
assumed the whole episode to be sort of dream created by her sex starved brain.
She sat up, pulling the silken sheets with, and curled her arms around her
knees. She was still naked—embarrassed about that fact—and the sheets fluttered
around her sensitized skin making her shiver.
She wondered where her t-shirt and joggers were, she couldn’t see
them on the floor. She also wondered also where Adam was, the curtains were
drawn so she couldn’t tell if it was dark but thought it must be. The air had a
night time feel to it, certainly it wasn’t morning yet.
What the hell have I done? Eva dropped her head against
her knees—the embarrassment now returning with full force—and tried to get a
hold of herself. Just as she’d
