all.” All that talk with Guido about peeing had suddenly made me want to go.
“Sure thing,” Paulie said. He turned and grabbed Guido by the bicep. ”We’ll meet you in the kitchen, man. I need to talk to my sister alone.” I noticed Guido patted Paulie on the back and left. I didn’t get it. Wouldn’t he have been a part of Paulie’s finger incident? My thoughts were interrupted when Paulie started ranting all over again.
“Look, I’m still not happy with this situation or arrangement you’ve signed yourself up for, Sis. I may never get used to the idea of you offering yourself to Sebastiano so you can save me,” he gritted. “Let’s get out of this bedroom, please. I don’t need the visuals of the both of you in this room. I’m sure that’s what is going to happen if I stay in here with you much longer.” With those parting words, he stormed off, leaving me to use the bathroom.
By the time I made it back to the kitchen, I was surprised to only find Paulie in there, propped against the counter waiting for me. He grinned when I came into his view. “I still can’t believe you’re doing this for me. You are insane!” he hissed. “You know what, though? You actually look good walking around this mansion, barefoot and relaxed, almost like you belong here. I only wish I could have given you extravagance like this…under different circumstances, of course.”
“It is what it is. I don’t plan on being here forever. I’m just paying off your debt. Where is Guido? How did you get rid of him?” I asked, hoping to change the subject. I was not in the mood for any more yelling or screaming matches with Paulie.
“I sent him outside to check the grounds. Is Guido giving you any problems, Sis?”
“No,” I said a little too quickly.
“Most of The Don’s men are pretty good blokes, but not all of them are, and we needed to talk in private.” He gave me a determined look and then focused his eyes on Guido through the window.
Was he worried about me brushing him off, or did it have something to do with Guido? I was confused. As much as I didn’t want to share the details about the deal I had struck with Sebastiano, I knew my brother wanted to know. I was about to speak, but he cut me off before I could get a word out.
“Sebastiano told me enough already over the phone. I’m not stupid. I was able to work out what the deal was between the two of you. He told me he wanted to talk to me face to face; that’s also why I am here. You are so young and innocent in comparison to him. This is going to take me a while to get used to. I’m finding it hard seeing you here, in the mansion, knowing what you’ll be doing with him.”
Embarrassment flooded me. Paulie stepped closer and hugged me, ignoring my heated cheeks. “I love you, Sierra, and I want what’s best for you. Sebastiano isn’t what I had imagined for you, ever. But we obviously don’t have a choice and as long as you are happy with the deal, I suppose I’ll need to learn to accept it. I suspect it’ll take me some time, but I will, as long as I know you are being treated right.”
“Oh, I love you, too, Paulie,” I said and pounced on my brother once again, throwing my arms around his neck. “Thank you. You are my little brother, after all. Let me pay your debt back this way. I told you on the phone he has been nothing but nice to me. I heard Sebastiano threaten you before, and I can’t bear the thought of being cut off from you altogether. I can do this. I can. It’s not as if he’s unattractive; far from it, actually. Trust me, I won’t find it that hard.” I anticipated that wouldn’t be a problem, at all .
Paulie pulled away from our hug, giving me a disgusted look, saying, “Damn, Sis, I didn’t need to know that! But, I need to face him sooner or later. Is he in his office?”
I shook my head. “No, he’s at the gym for a training session. That’s why Guido was following me around. Do you want to keep me
