because they have a penis.”
    “I don’t hump just anyone with a
penis. If I did that, I’d have nailed Jason Tucker back in sophomore year. I do
have some standards. But come on, woman. Chris is hot, he’s talented, he’s your
best friend…”
“Exactly! He’s my best friend. I
can’t just sleep with him.”
“Why not? I’ve slept with my best
friends before.”
“Are you still friends with them?”
    “Well, no…”
    “I can’t lose Chris as a friend.”
“The reason them and I aren’t
friends anymore isn’t because I slept with them. It’s because they were
assholes.”
    “What if they weren’t assholes
until you slept with them?”
“Do you really think that by
sleeping with Chris, you’ll magically turn him into an asshole?”
“Well, no, but that’s beside the
point.”
“You’re making excuses. And the way
you’re talking, it means you’ve actually considered this as a viable option.”
“I will admit that I’m attracted to
Chris. But that doesn’t mean I would ever act on it.”
“You turn into a puddle every time
he touches you.”
    “Whatever, Jas. Are you coming
tonight?”
“Nah,” she said. “I have a lot of
homework to get done after work. But have fun. And hopefully you’ll be coming.”
She winked.
“Thanks,” she said with a short
sigh before grabbing her stuff up and heading off to class.
    Kali wondered exactly what Chris’
opinion on the subject was. Did he find her attractive? They never really
discussed it. He had a bad boy look to him, although it did not match his
personality at all. He usually wore torn jeans, black band t-shirts, and a leather
jacket. Most women expected him to start rocking out once he got up on stage.
And while he was perfectly capable of wielding an electric guitar and jamming
to some heavy metal, he was much more content playing his acoustic music.
So Kali decided to test this
theory, just for fun. She wore a short black skirt she knew Chris had never
seen her in, an equally black halter top, did her brown hair up nice and curly,
and caked on some extra make-up than she would normally wear. A pair of dangly
silver earrings and a matching necklace that accentuated her cleavage was the
icing on the cake. She got quite a few looks on her way from her dorm room to
the car and a couple of wolf whistles. Guess that meant she looked good.
Chris was getting his equipment set
up as Kali walked into the bar that evening. She ordered herself a drink and
him a beer before heading back toward the stage.
“Hey,” she said, setting the drinks
down on the table. His back was turned to her as he set up his speakers. “How’s
it going?”
    “Pretty good,” he replied. “How
about…” He stopped mid-sentence as he turned, his mouth still open.
    “Yes?” she asked.
    “Uh…how, how about you?”
“Good,” she said with a smile.
Guess that answered her question.
    “You look nice,” Chris said.
“Thank you. You look pretty nice
yourself.”
“I look the same as always.”
“That doesn’t mean it doesn’t look
nice,” she said.
He nodded with a slight smile.
“Well, thank you.” He turned back to his equipment, finishing setting
everything up. He hopped down off the stage and picked up his beer. “Thanks.”
He took a sip. “You’re pretty awesome, you know that?”
    “I know.” She grinned.
Chris had a great show per usual.
He had a way of getting random stranger interest and into the show, cheering
him on. He kept making eyes at her the entire time, singing some of his sexiest
songs, and it warmed her blood and sent a tingling between her legs she hadn’t
felt in a while. She wasn’t sure if he was doing it on purpose or if she was
just noticing it more tonight.
He sold five CDs at his show,
without any prodding from Kali, and she could tell he was riding high by the
end of the show.
Chris’ car was parked all the way
at the corner of the parking lot, under a broken street lamp. He used his cell
phone as a
