“I think this is a lost cause,” Mark remarked as the stubborn little flakes refused to budge. He dropped the cloth and began toweling Trevor’s damp body so that he didn’t get chilled.
Trevor laughed and curled his fingers around Mark’s wrists, then tugged until Mark was lying stretched out beside him. He reached around Mark to pull him into an embrace. “I think I could learn to like this,” he said, giving Mark another squeeze.
“Yeah? Well, I think I’ll like you better once you are clean again,” Mark teased and kissed the tip of his nose. Getting out of bed, Mark pulled at one arm, and Trevor obediently followed behind.
Mark turned on the water for the shower. He opened a closet to remove two towels and placed them on the counter nearby. He reached in and adjusted the water to a comfortable temperature. Once satisfied, he held the curtain to one side and motioned for Trevor to go in first. Mark guided him beneath the spray, getting him wet all over. He filled a clean cloth with liquid soap.
“So incredible, Trev. I love your body hair,” Mark said softly as he swirled the cloth around, making soapy rings in the hair covering Trevor’s muscular chest.
“I’m really glad.” Trevor chuckled. “I would hate to have to shave it all off.”
“No!” Mark gasped, eyes wide with disbelief. “Don’t even joke about that. Your body is perfect the way it is.”
“Just kidding,” Trevor teased as Mark continued to wash him from head to toe.
Trevor insisted on returning the favor after Mark was done. That led to more petting and kissing, which continued until the hot water ran out. Laughing and now chilled, they turned off the water and began toweling each other dry.
They both dressed in baggy sweats. Luckily Mark had some loose enough to fit Trevor reasonably well. They reheated the Chinese food and then ate quietly on the sofa, watching an old detective show on television.
It was well after eleven when they went to bed. Mark set the alarm clock so that Trevor could get up in time for rounds at the hospital the next morning. He kissed Trevor once more and turned onto his side. Trevor turned and spooned himself against Mark’s back, placing one arm over Mark to hold him close. He kissed Mark once on the ear, then gently nibbled his lobe.
“What?” Mark squirmed and giggled in response to the nibbling at his ear.
“Nothing,” Trevor replied innocently. He reached around and began running his hands in wide caressing circles on Mark’s abdomen.
“Then stop,” Mark chided, taking Trevor’s hands in his own to hold them still. “You have to be up in about five hours.”
Trevor tightened his grasp, hugging Mark close. “Thank you,” he said softly.
“For what?” Mark asked, turning his head back toward Trevor quizzically.
“The best date ever,” Trevor said with a sigh. He gave Mark another squeeze, and then settled in to rest his face against Mark’s shoulder.
Mark smiled as he heard Trevor’s breathing turn to soft snores within a couple of minutes. He wriggled back until they were spooned together. He could feel Trevor’s chest move as he inhaled and exhaled. That was the last thing he remembered before he too drifted off to sleep.

T REVOR worked late on Monday and Tuesday managing surgeries, so they didn’t get to see each other on either day. Their communication was limited to a few texts throughout the day. Mark returned to work on Wednesday and was surprised to find he had no assignment on the board. He wasn’t in charge, and he wasn’t caring for patients either. Puzzled, he located the staffing book to make sure he hadn’t mixed up his schedule.
