“I’m serious, Danny,” Lisa said, eyes filled with tears. “I don’t trust you being gone for days at a time.”
“It’s only for two days. I’ll be home as soon as it’s over,” Danny assured his wife. He moved in closer in an attempt to comfort her, but she backed away.
“I don’t want you going,” she said, and Danny bit his lip to keep from rolling his eyes.
Here we go again, he thought. If he didn’t handle this delicately, he would miss his flight to Barbados .
If only he hadn’t cheated that one, single time.
“I don’t understand why you have to go on these trips. And why don’t you ever take me with you? It doesn’t make any sense to me, Danny. God knows what you’ll be doing down there, with all those women wearing less than nothing and drinking and…”
“I can control myself, baby,” he started to say, “I love you…”
Lisa was having none of it. “The way you controlled yourself in New York City ? If I had been there, you wouldn’t have looked at that girl twice. If only you’d take me with you, Danny…”
If only Danny could tell her that the reason he didn’t take her was her insane jealousy whenever she thought he was looking at another woman. She flew into rages, called him names, and sometimes – he was ashamed to admit – he regretted ever marrying her, beautiful though she was. He couldn’t help wondering if every woman reacted this way.
He’d been unfaithful once, and, despite his remorse, it had haunted him ever since.
Danny winced as his briefcase hit the wall. He hoped his netbook still worked. Next went his iPhone which shattered against the wall. He had his contacts carefully saved in Cloud; he’d pick up a new one at the airport.
He wondered if Alex would have thrown his briefcase at the wall or shattered his iPhone.

Alex was a travel agent from Chicago . When he met her, she’d been marching through La Guardia airport on her way to the hotel where their conference was to be held that year. The first thing he’d noticed was her hair – a brilliant shade of red. Despite the confident way she held herself and her obvious knowledge of her field, Alex’s face held an air of innocence, and her wide, dark grey eyes only enhanced the illusion. She was slender with long, shapely legs, and when he first saw her, she wore a white summer dress that seemed to hint that, with just a slight breeze, he just might catch a glimpse of where those legs led.
All week, he kept up a light flirtation with Alex. It was difficult not to – dancing one night, drinks another, an actual intellectual discussion (which rarely occurred with Lisa). She stimulated him, in more ways than one.
He dreaded the week’s end, and the final night seemed headed to be the worst. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to head home to his wife; it was simply that he knew he would miss Alex and the fun time they’d had.
That night was hot and uncomfortable. The A/C was cranked, and the beer was cold, but nothing seemed to help.
Until Alex tapped on his door.
She wore a white bathrobe and a smile.
“Hot, isn’t it?” she asked. “Want to go for a swim?”
Danny hesitated. She looked amazing; long hair drawn back in a pony tail, eyes wide and sparkling with invitation. Imagining that gorgeous body in a bikini had his dick already rising.
“C’mon, it’s just a quick swim, and I don’t want to go alone,” she
