finish you off with my hand.” Then he started rolling his sweet tongue in circles

around his pubic hair. He took long, deep breaths, pressing his nose to the base of Ed’s

dick. But Ed bolted forward and jumped out of bed. His erection bounced against his

thigh with a loud snap. He rubbed his eyes a few times and said, “We can’t. You have to

leave now.”

Jonathan’s head went up. He shook it a few times and said, “What?”

“Noah and Lisa will be here by eight,” he said. “They can’t find you here.”

“Just tell them I came over early. They won’t know I slept with you last night.”

He stretched his arms and yawned, still not understanding the magnitude of what Ed was

telling him. Then he smiled and said, “I like the way that sounds…that I slept with you.”

“They’ll see your clothes,” Ed said. His voice was fast and sharp. “Lisa will know,

and I’m not ready for this. There’s too much going on. I’m sorry. I’m really sorry, but

you have to leave and come back.”

Jonathan slapped the bed and sighed. “If it weren’t for Noah,” he said, “I’d

probably leave and not come back today at all. First you ask me to spend the night, and

now you kick me out first thing in the morning. It makes no sense, Ed. Most guys would

just lie back and enjoy a good blow job. Are you ever going to be ready to move on with

your life?” His voice sounded abrupt, as if he was really mad this time. “And I’m starting

to wonder about myself now. What the fuck is wrong with me? Do I enjoy being insulted

by you? I’ve never let anyone else treat me this shabbily, but I let you get away with it. I

let you fuck me, then you kick me out and I smile and come back for more. Maybe I’m

the one with the problem.”

Ed ran his palm through his hair. He looked down at Jake’s photo on the

nightstand and saw it facing the wall. He knew Jonathan must have turned it around, and

it dawned on him that this wasn’t easy for Jonathan either. So he spread his arms wide and he raised his brows. “You don’t have any problems, Jonathan,” he said. “It’s me. I

need more time, is all. You’re perfect just the way you are.”

He meant it, too. He meant this with all his heart. “I’ll make it up to you. I

promise.”

Jonathan shook his head and sighed. “You see, Ed,” he said, “that’s how you

always get me, and I’m starting to think you know I can’t resist it. You do something

really shitty, like kick me out of your house like common trash, and then you say or do

something really great and I have no choice but to forgive you. It’s not fair. I have

feelings, too.”

Ed shrugged. He knew his reasons sounded more like lame excuses and irrational

worries. But he wasn’t ready to be part of a couple yet. “I’m sorry. I know you have

feelings. I’m just not ready to get into this with Lisa, Noah, or anyone else. But most of

all Noah. He lost a father last year and his entire world turned upside down in a matter of

minutes. We went from being the perfect family with two gay fathers to being two lost

souls. I don’t think Noah has recovered from the shock. I need to keep his life as solid

and stable as possible.”

Jonathan looked him in the eye and said, “Ah well, since you put it that way, I’m

okay with it. I don’t want to confuse Noah either. I’ve really become attached to that kid.

So I’ll go back to the hotel, change my clothes, and come back to help him start

rehearsing for the Christmas show.”

Ed smiled. “You’re the best. I’ll make it up to you. I swear.”

Then Jonathan rolled over on his back and rested his head on the edge of the bed.

He reached down and grabbed his own erection and said, “We still have a few minutes, and you’re still half hard from what I can see. We may as well get off
