was slow and unenthused. “To all those I’ve met tonight, thank you for giving me a chance. Trust me when I say, I’m not all that.” I smiled, to lighten their moods. “Feel free to stay, enjoy the rest of the food and drink, but my bride and I are retiring to our beds. There will be an official wedding announcement at the end of the week.”
My mother, in the back, raised a glass of champagne, “to the King and Candice.” Everyone repeated after her and raised whatever glass they were holding. I smiled in gratitude to my mother and kissed Candice softly.
“See? The King always gets what he wants.” I said against her neck.
She shook her head and we made our way to the exit. There were several congratulations and compliments on my choice. In what seemed like hours, we were finally in my hall, entering my bedroom.
“What did you mean when you told your mom we were half mated already?”
“Oh, I meant what I said,” I pulled my shirt over my head. “We have completed half of the mating ritual.”
“Half?” she said, dropping her clothes on the floor.
“Yup. You must drink from me and I must drink from you. But I already have, so we’re halfway done. It’s better if it happens at once, though.” I said, climbing into the bed in my boxers.
“What happens when we do it together?” she asked, climbing into bed wearing one of my t-shirts.
“well, we become a part of a shared being. You become stronger, you will still be human but less likely to get sick, or break a bone. And I will be connected to you. I'll be able to taste food not laced in blood and if you hurt, I will too. We will become closer than ever, in mind and in body. Then once we come together, we will be mated for life. As long as you live, I will never want another.”
We were lying face to face, tucked under the covers.
“Whoa,” she said, “that’s heavy.”
I shrugged, “I suppose, but only if you choose wrong. If you choose right, it will be the best decision you ever make.”
“So how do you know you chose right?” she asked, scooting closer and throwing her leg over mine.
“I just know. How do you know you have a brain?” She scoffed.
“Because I’m thinking.”
“But how do you know it’s not something else causing you to think?”
She shrugged. “Exactly, you just know. I know this isn’t just lust and no one is pulling my strings. I just know you were the right choice.” I kissed her nose and gathered her into my arms. “Now, may I properly mate with my bride? Or do I have another questionnaire to go through?”
One more question, “can I ever get out of this? Like if I’m not happy.”
It hurt me that she would ask that.
“Of course, you can leave anytime you want. It would kill me, but I would let you go. I don’t want you to ever be unhappy with me.”
She nodded, “Ok. I’m ready. What do I do? Bite your neck?” she asked.
“Relax,” I said, pushing her onto her back, “enjoy the ride.”
I bunched her shirt into my hands to pull it over her head. She was bare in front of me. Chest rising in anticipation and a soft blush coloring her. I stared at her, memorizing each detail in my mind. She giggled under my scrutiny.
“You are the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”
I grazed her nipples, hard and bright pink, ready to be tasted, so I did, dipping to bit them gently. She wriggled underneath me, impatient, but I would not be rushed. My fingers caressed what little pubic hair she had, black as the hair on her head. I pressed a kiss there, inhaling her scent. She smelled aroused and I wanted to taste it.
A groan caught in her throat when I swiped my tongue through her wetness. It was a quick lap, a teaser but I wanted more and pushed her knees apart. I mushed my face farther into her legs, not caring how much would get on my face. She smelled like lavender and tasted like water, refreshing and life sustaining. I needed more. I licked her some more, nibbling at her thighs,
