Kelly.”
“In the meantime, I’ll have as much peace as I can,” she responded to Ana. “What the fuck was Vinny thinking? Breaking into our apartment with all this happening in our lives right now?”
    “I don’t understand why he didn’t call.”
“He could have died here alone. That is if he still doesn’t still die of infection.”
Ana took the soap Kelly gave her and washed her hands thoroughly. When they still couldn’t continue to hide out in the bathroom, she opened the door to find them pacing in Kelly’s bedroom. She decided to keep shut, and give Kelly the floor.
Kelly took Ana’s hand and dragged her to sit beside her on the bed. None of them said a word until Rafe frustrated at them asked the first question.
“Well, we all know his name but can one of you tell me what the fuck he was doing here?”
“He needed medical attention,” Kelly answered him in a clear and concise voice.
“Duh? That’s why we have hospitals. Everybody knows about them, so why didn’t he go there?”
“He didn’t want the knife wound to be reported t the police.”
“Obviously. Who stabbed him and who is he hiding from?”
    “Don’t know. Don’t know.”
Ana snickered and earned an elbow in her side from Kelly. “Sorry,” she mumbled so only Kelly could hear.
“This is serious business, Ana. We have a madman on the lose, and now we both get a call,” he said pointing to Rafe then himself, “from Jimmy saying someone broke into your apartment, and not only that, but that he was a mobster. Worse that the two of you were entertaining him,” Gabe ended with heat.
“Imagine my shock and the shock of everyone in the meeting I was holding when I just ran out of the door,” Rafe said picking up the tirade. “I hate practical jokes, but this is the one time I hoped Jimmy was playing one on me. Unfortunately Gabe and I get to the door and both hoping it’s all some minor misunderstanding and what do we see when we walk in?”
“The two of you huddled close to one of New York’s most notoroius mobster’s son. A mobster himself in his own right,” Gabe added.
Rafe shook his head. “And about to stitch the man up. Kelly? Are you crazy for even going through with the act. And taking Ana as your accomplice. And how the heck did he even get in? Does he have a key to your apartment?”
“What I need to know is how you even know such an unsavory character in the first place?” Gabe asked. “How long have you known him? And what does he have over you that you were willing to do his bidding?”
“You heard the man. Someone needs to start talking.”
Kelly squeezed Ana’s fingers then stood up. “First of all, I took the oath, so whatever his sins are, my job is to try and save him. Secondly, Vinny is an alleged mobster. But whatever he is, he is a friend. Third, he didn’t threaten or force us into anything. Granted he should have gone to the hospital, but Vinny is stubborn and was trying to avoid police scrutiny.” She took a short breath and looked at Ana.
“ I have no idea what he did or was running away from, but we, Ana and myself, intend to find out as soon as he sobers up. Fourth, you both need to stay away from Vinny. He’s a friend and will always be welcome here. He doesn’t have a key, so that’s another subject Ana and I will discuss with him.” She took a breath. “Anything else?”
“Oh, and fifth, we have known Vinny from the first day we landed in New York,” Ana added.
“And how do you know him,” Rafe asked.
Kelly sighed. “If you must know, he saved our lives. Actually we saved each other’s lives.”
“And since that day we have been friends. Not the type that see each other often, but he always keeps in touch with us,” Ana clarified.
“Your association with him is troubling. I think you both need to reconsider,” Gabe said.
“He could drag you both into his crimes and neither of us may be able to get you out of jail.” Rafe looked at them to see if
