âYou better say you like it.â
âYes! I like herâ¦I mean it !â Jeremy blurted out. Sadie, Jenna, and Kylie grinned.
âWell, it was all Lexiâs idea,â Kylie said.
Jeremy smiled shyly. âIt looks really good.â He took the meatball off the top and ate it. âItâs way better than hot lunch.â
Jack tried to grab a forkful. âLucky!â he whined. âI want one! Lexi, how come you made it just for Jeremy?â
Lexi shrugged. âI thought he would like meâ¦I mean it !â
âHe does like you ,â Kylie whispered in her ear. âMaybe we should rename our club Peace, Love, and Cupids?â

In drama class the next morning, it was time for Lexi and Jeremy to rehearse the final scene of the play. Lexi was both excited and terrified at the same time. She knew all her lines by heart, but she also knew how the scene endedâwith a kiss.
âRomeo walks in and sees Julietâs not breathing,â Mr. Higgins directed. âHe thinks sheâs dead and canât live without her.â He motioned to the floor. âLexi, play dead.â
Lexi closed her eyes tight and lay down on a floor mat. Jeremy ran his fingers through his hair. âUm, what do I have to do?â
âJust look miserable,â Mr. Higgins answered. Lexi opened one eye and peeked: Jeremy was doing a pretty good job of that!
Jeremy took a deep breath and said his line âOh, my loveâ¦â so quietly Lexi could barely hear him.
âWhat? What was that?â Mr. Higgins asked.
Jeremy gulped and repeated ever so softly, âOh, my loveâ¦â
âLouder!â Mr. Higgins bellowed, waving his arms in the air. He was getting frustrated, and Lexi was worried what he might do to Jeremy if he didnât speak up.
âThis is a very tragic scene. Like thisâ¦â Mr. Higgins instructed. He suddenly grabbed Juliette to demonstrate. âOh, my love!â he exclaimed, dipping her backward.
Juliette pretended to swoon and Mr. Higgins continued, âThus, with a kiss, I die!â Lexi sat up and stared. Were her teachers actually going to kiss ?
Mr. Higgins planted a peck on Julietteâs cheek. She blushed.
âJust like that,â he told Jeremy. âCan you handle it?â
Jeremy ran his fingers nervously through his bangs again. âYeah, I think so.â He gave Lexi a kiss on the cheek and said, âThanks for the spaghetti cupcake.â
Lexi sat there positively stunned. She was completely unaware of anything going on around her. All she could hear was her heart beating wildly in her ears. All she could see were Jeremyâs dreamy blue eyes.
âNo, no, no,â Mr. Higgins wrung his hands. âLexi, youâre supposed to be dead. Not grinning from ear to ear! And, Jeremy, thatâs not the line! There are no cupcakes in Romeo and Juliet !â
Juliette jumped in. âRodney,â she began sweetly, touching Mr. Higginsâ arm. âItâs okay.â She winked at Lexi. âBesides, maybe there should be cupcakes in Verona.â
Now it was Mr. Higginsâs turn to blush. âYes, dear.â
âLetâs take it again from the top!â Juliette announced. And this time Lexi was happy to oblige!
âIâm worried about all these Valentineâs Day orders,â Kylie said. The girls had planned on working the entire weekend to make sure every cupcake was ready by Monday, Valentineâs Day. They arrived at eight oâclock sharp at Kylieâs house Saturday morning, eager to bake.
âMy dad and brothers said theyâd help us deliver,â Sadie said, placing a purple candy heart that read Be mine on top of a frosted cupcake.
âItâs not just that,â Kylie explained. âThis is turning out to be our biggest holiday yet. We have over 100 orders here.â
Jenna did some quick math. âTwo hundred thirteen dozen
