taking the day off.”
Jake gave her a hard, quick kiss then stepped back to begin the introductions.
Camille caught Lacey’s dreamy expression and the way Danny held her hand as the men lined up to say hello.
The meal was a surprisingly comfortable and fun affair, Jake’s and Danny’s firehouse buddies doing their best to relate the men’s most embarrassing mistakes in a lighthearted attempt to woo the ladies away. The bruschetta was a success, with Clayton saying he’d add it to the firehouse recipe box.
The meal finally ended and Jake and Danny walked the women to Camille’s car. Jake backed her up against her door, his hands slid around her hips to cup her bottom and pull her close. The evidence of his desire pressed hard against her belly.
“Damn,” he breathed when he pulled back from a heated kiss.
“Know the feeling,” she said, smiling softly.
    “Like the guys?”
    “Yeah. They’re nice.”
“No, they’re not. But they knew I’d kick all their asses if they weren’t polite.”
Her smile widened. “I don’t know if you’d win. They’re all built like tanks.”
Jake sighed and wrapped his arms around her, pressing a kiss against her hair. “Tomorrow. Just you and me?”
Camille glanced to the other couple, still deep in a noisy lip-lock. When her gaze swung back to Jake, she saw the taut line of his jaw and realized he really did want her to choose him. That this was the moment he was making a claim.
Her skin warmed, her pussy melted, and she rose up on her toes to press a soft kiss against his thinned lips. “Just you and me. Please.”
His arms hugged her tight, and then he cleared his throat, waiting for Danny to lift his head. “Time to get back. You know they’re all standing at the window, watching.”
Danny laughed and gave Lacey a quick, hard kiss. “I like pancakes.”
The girls got into the car and pulled away from the parking lot. Camille glanced into the rearview mirror to watch the men as they stood side by side, watching the women leave.
Lacey groaned. “Now, how’m I supposed to sleep after that kiss?”
    “You seeing Danny tomorrow?”
    “Uh-huh. You?”
“Yup. Just the two of us.”
“Danny said you and Jake needed some alone time.”
Camille darted a gaze at Lacey. “Doesn’t Danny want some of his own?”
Lacey laughed. “He said he couldn’t wait to do all the wicked things he’d been too shy to try with you two watching.”
Camille’s gaze swiveled to Lacey, whose wide smile stretched across her face. “Good God, what hasn’t he already tried?”
Lacey shrugged. “I can’t even conceive of it, but he also mentioned that they’re planning a hiking trip on their next three-day break. They want us to come.”
“When did you have time to talk?”
    “In between kisses.”
“Hiking?” Camille shuddered. “I don’t even own a pair of boots.”
“Like we need an excuse to shop?”
    “I don’t know. Sounds sweaty.”
Lacey laughed. “Danny said, think ‘sex on a blanket under the stars’.”
“And that’s all it took to convince you? He didn’t mention mosquitoes and snakes, did he?”
“He said the guys would do all the work. All we have to do is be there.”
“I’ve heard that one before,” Camille muttered, already worrying about being a wimp and disappointing Jake.
“Come on. It’s a chance to get them alone— for three freaking days !”
Three days in the wilderness. Two big, buff men doing all the strenuous stuff. “Think they’ll stay shirtless?” Camille murmured.
“I’ll bet they’ll take every chance they get to strip raw.”
Camille blew out a deep breath. “L.L Bean, here we come.”

Jake rapped on Camille’s door early the next morning, still wearing his fireman’s uniform. He hadn’t hit the house for a shower, hadn’t wanted to wait a second longer than he had to. Seeing her at the station, listening to his buddies’ lighthearted ribbing after the women had left about how a
