back on him, Rafael hardly looked like a man who just received a blowjob. I doubted that I didn’t look like a woman who just gave one.
He looked back at me but didn’t say anything. I wasn’t sure what to think. Even though his body was clearly satisfied, Rafael seemed visibly upset. I wanted to ask him if something was wrong but the passion and lust that was once between us was suddenly gone. Gone was the handsome man I was trying to please sexually. In his place was a boss I was timidly not trying to upset.
We didn’t exchange a single word between the two of us the rest of the trip. I spent most of the time looking out of the window and watching the limo snail its way through traffic. The limo finally arrived at my apartment building. The driver opened the door for me.
I stared at Rafael, waiting for him to say something.
“Don’t work too hard,” he said. “I’ll see you in the boardroom tomorrow.”
    “Of course, sir.”
I nodded to him and got out of the limo. The driver tipped his hat to me and I made my way into my apartment with all of my things. I couldn’t stop thinking about what had just happened.
    What was that?
I did my best to shake all of the thoughts out of my head and focus on trying to learn more from all of the information and notes that had been sent to me. All of the work did a good job of keeping my focus. I sat at my desk for the rest of the night, trying to prepare for the meeting tomorrow morning. I took a moment to rest my head upon my desk and before I knew it, I drifted off to sleep.

Chapter 12
Despite Rafael’s odd behavior, I was still excited about showing up to work tomorrow morning. I showed-up to the boardroom bright and early. One of the benefits of working on the second-highest floor of the building was that I didn’t have to make my own breakfast. There was always catering there to make sure that I never had to sit in the meetings with an empty stomach.
There was a small dining room just outside of the boardroom. The board members were always there early in the morning, enjoying their breakfast and reading their papers and journals. Their demeanor was a lot more relaxed than one might expect. I suppose that this was the one time during the day when they didn’t have to focus on making important decisions.
    “Hey, Alice. Over here!”
I made my way over to one of the tables where Travis and Wesley were waiting for me. It was clear that there was a division between the interns and the real board members but nobody seemed to care. As I started to eat my breakfast, Wesley started talking about everything that happened yesterday.
“I still can’t believe he actually listened to you,” Wesley said with some enthusiasm in his voice. “He took your advice over the other board members.”
“It was obvious why he did it,” Travis said.
When he said that, I began to wonder if he suspected that there was something happening between Rafael and me. I nonchalantly ate my food while Travis and Wesley continued to have their discussion.
“Is it?” Wesley asked. “Please, explain to me why that is.”
“What’s to explain?” Travis said. “It’s a billion dollars. Mr. Barnett said that he didn’t want to offer more than three. Two was better than he could have imagined. If there were any chance of him saving money, he would take it.”
“…I don’t think it’s that simple,” Wesley said skeptically. “It was obvious that Mr. Barnett was willing to spend more than three. Why would he try to be so cheap?”
“Cheap? I think this atmosphere is starting to get to your head. We’re talking about a billion dollars. A billion. That’s a lot of money, even for someone like Mr. Barnett.”
“Nah, I don’t buy it,” Wesley shook his head. “I think he took Alice’s advice for a different reason. Sometimes you just have a feeling about these things and go with your gut. In this case, he thought that maybe Alice had a point. What do you think, Alice?”
