Keilah reminded her just as the waitress returned with their drinks and croissants.
âYour entrées will be out shortly,â the waitress informed them.
âThank you,â Keilah replied.
The two friends continued to talk over the next ten minutes about their lives and occasionally reminisced about their joyous college days before returning back to the subject of dating.
âSo when are you going to take the time to date?â Keilah asked. âYouâre a beautiful, intelligent woman, and I know your mom has been asking the same question.â
About that time the waitress arrived with their entrées. As soon as she left, Tori said, âWell, I do have something to tell you, but you canât freak out.â
Keilah bit into her crab cake and said, âI promise.â
âWell, I did meet someone, but I donât want to say any more, because I donât want to jinx it.â
âWho is it? What does he do for a living? Where is he from?â Keilah asked, bombarding her friend with questions.
âSee, this is exactly why I havenât said anything. Youâre freaking out, and you said you wouldnât.â
Keilah put her fork down and said, âIâm sorry, Tori, Iâm just so happy for you.â
âDonât count him in too soon. Heâs fine and heâs sweet, but I need to get to know him a little more.â
Keilah took a bite of her collard greens and said, âI understand, but hurry up, because Neariah needs someone to play with.â
âDonât hold your breath. Itâs hard to find a good man these days, especially one whoâs worth marrying.â
Keilah gave her friendâs hand a squeeze and said, âGood men are still out there, sis, so donât throw in the towel yet.â
âI wonât. Iâll give him a chance,â Tori answered before she took a bite of her salmon. âHe has the most handsome eyes and smile, and he smells so good.â
âReally?â Keilah asked with a smile.
Tori closed her eyes and said, âYeah, and he has the softest lips. Hmmm, heâs a great kisser.â
Keilah threw up her hands and said, âNow, thatâs what Iâm talking about. You do the damn thang, girl.â
Tori giggled and said, âIâll keep you posted.â
âYouâd better, and you had better bring him over for dinner. I canât believe I havenât been able to get you over to our new house since you moved back from New York. Youâre either out of town or youâre working. Life is too short, and you need to relax and have fun.â
âI promise Iâll make the next one.â
Keilah wiped her mouth with the napkin and said, âGood, because I want to meet this guy, but Iâll wait until you feel comfortable bringing him over. I donât want him to feel pressured.â
âThanks, Keilah. Now, do you have any new pictures of Neariah? I know sheâs growing.â
âOf course,â Keilah said as she proudly pulled out her wallet and handed it to her best friend.
âOh, Keilah, sheâs beautiful. She looks just like you.â
âYou think? I think she looks like Ramsey, but I see myself in some of her expressions,â she answered as she slid her wallet back inside her purse.
âAre you planning on having any more?â
Keilah finished off her lunch and said, âI would love to have at least two more. Itâll limit my time in the office, but thatâs okay. Iâm ready to cut my hours, anyway.â
âYou do know that you really donât have to work, right?â
Keilah leaned back in her chair and said, âI know, but the business is our creation. I never dreamed we would be this successful with our business.â
âBut you love being a wife and mother, donât you?â Tori asked.
âWithout a doubt,â Keilah admitted. âIâm doing okay juggling both right
