No Ordinary Romance
of my yard all year long. When other
kids his age are sleeping in, he's out making money. "If he had
your car keys he would have pulled you car out of the driveway and
cleared it. It's no problem though; he'll get it later after you
leave. I don't know what I'm going to do when he graduates from
high school.
Thomas stood there not taking his eyes off
her. Are you in a rush to get rid of me?"
Connie saw the brooding look on his face, did
he seriously think she was ready to let him go. "Oh no, you're not
going anywhere. I believe I promised you a demonstration with my
toys."
Thomas held his breath the whole time she
spoke, he didn't know what he would do if she kicked him out.
"Constantina I'm a willing participant." He kissed her and headed
back to her bedroom.
Connie enjoyed watching him walk back to her
bedroom. Wow! Thomas really is a lot of man; he looks good coming
and going. "I'll have your lunch ready by the time you're done
showering."
    ***
Connie made hot ham and cheese sandwiches
with cottage fries and a fruit salad. She was just setting up
everything on the kitchen table when Thomas walked in straight from
the shower. His eyes told her that he was hungry for more than
food, but he would settle for food right now. "What would you like
to drink? I have fruit juice, milk, beer, cola, and I also have
water."
Thomas sat down at the table realizing that
he was starving as the aroma from his plate reached his nose. "You
weren't kidding about a feast. Usually I eat a bowl of cereal and
then I might pick up something later from a fast food joint for
dinner."
Since Thomas didn't answer her about a
beverage, she got a glass of water for both of them. "This isn't a
feast Thomas, this is a late lunch. If you're nice to me, I might
make you a shrimp gamberi with a white sauce. I could also make you
meatloaf, macaroni and cheese, a green bean salad, and homemade
rolls."
Thomas stopped chewing his food when he heard
her say homemade rolls. "You can really make all that?"
"Yes, I can actually make all of that. I'm
not a girly girl like my friends Samantha and Jenna, but my momma
taught me how to cook. Lucky for you that I went to the store
earlier this week, so the cupboard is full."
"Whatever you decide to make I will be in
seventh heaven? Now I suggest you finish your lunch, so you have
enough energy to last you the afternoon. I haven't had a woman in
months, ever since you caught my eye. My self imposed sexual
drought is over."
Connie took her time finishing her lunch. She
wasn't going to be rushed, not even for Thomas. "I'm a slow eater,
why don't you tell me about you family."
"What do you want to know?"
"Everything. When I found out that Joanie
Galvin was your mother I couldn't believe it. I mean she is
so..."
"Let me finish that sentence for you. Joanie
is a delightful person; she's funny, caring, and a wealth of
information. How could she possibly have such an egotistical son
like Thomas Galvin?"
    Connie laughed at Thomas's self
abasement."Those aren't the exact words I would use, but the
sentiment was the same."
"My mother is a strong woman, and I know that
I've been a disappointment to her at times. I opened up a law firm
with my wife after graduating from law school. She was part of
Omaha's elite: Miss Aksarben, her father was a respected judge, and
all the Anglo hotshots wanted her. In their eyes, I was a dirty
Indian who didn't know his place."
Their lighthearted banter got serious quick.
"Thomas I want to know everything about you, but not if you have to
dredge up an unpleasant past."
Thomas was disappointed to see Constantina's
playful mood evaporate; he was serious about establishing a
relationship with her. Therefore, that meant explaining an
inglorious past, which made him infamous. "I want you to hear from
me about my ex-wife and the court case that dragged my name through
the mud. I was so proud of my Native American heritage that I
started using my middle name Greywolf."
