will. I should go. I have some things to do before bed."
    "Before you go...how's your leg?"
I sigh. "Mom. Don't ask. Please."
"Of course I'm going to ask. Just last week you were limping around the house."
"Because I tripped on one of Luke's toys. It had nothing to do with my injury."
"And if it did, you wouldn't tell me."
"Do we have to do this now? I don't want to fight with you."
"Kira, your father and I need to know if your leg is bothering you. If it is, it could be something serious, which means you'll need to see a doctor there."
"There's nothing wrong with my leg," I say, tensing up. I get so mad when she does this. She makes me feel like I'm five years old and can't take care of myself.
    "Honey, I just—"
"Mom, I can't do this. Let's just talk later. I love you. Bye." I end the call, then wait, knowing she'll call back, but then she doesn't.
"Shit," I mutter, tossing the phone on my bed as I lie down. I don't want to fight with my mom but I can't listen to her go on and on about my leg. I'm trying to forget it even happened but I can't do that when everyone keeps reminding me of it.
I pick up my phone and search for Austin's number and call him. I'm not even sure why. I just need to talk to someone and he's the first person who came to mind. Truthfully, I haven't stopped thinking about him since I met him.
When he dropped me off tonight, I really wanted him to kiss me. In fact, I was waiting for him to, but then he didn't, probably because I kept telling him it wasn't a date.
He answers after a few rings. "Hey, this is Austin."
He doesn't recognize my number because I never gave it to him.
"Hey. It's Kira." I lie back on my bed.
"Kira." He laughs a little. "You miss me already?"
"Would you think I'm weird if I said yes?"
"No," he says in a serious tone. "Actually, I felt the same way about you. You want me to come over?"
"No. I just wanted to talk."
    "Is something wrong?"
"Why do you think something's wrong?"
"I can hear it in your voice." His tone lightens. "It's a talent of fitness trainers. We have to really know our clients. So was I right?"
    "Yeah," I say quietly.
"What is it?" He sounds serious again. "What's wrong?"
"I was just talking to my mom and we kind of had a fight. Not really a fight but—I shouldn't be telling you this. I should just be thankful I have a mom. God, I'm so sorry. I'm being completely insensitive."
"Hey, it's okay. Just because I don't have a mom anymore doesn't mean you can't tell me about yours. And I know what you're saying. I have issues with my dad sometimes."
    "You do?"
"Yeah, and it sucks because I don't like arguing with him so then I just keep quiet and don't say anything."
"I do the same thing, except sometimes I can't take it anymore so I tell my mom how I feel and we end up fighting. But tonight, I kind of hung up on her and she didn't call back and now I feel bad."
"Maybe you two just need some time to cool down before you talk again."
"Yeah. That's a good idea. I'll text her and tell her I'll call her tomorrow."
"Any other problems I can solve?" he asks in a joking tone. I love how he can switch back and forth from serious to not serious.
    "No. That's it for tonight."
    "So we're done here?"
    "I guess."
"Well, I'm not. What else do you want to talk about?"
    "Where are you right now?"
    "At home. In my room."
    "Are you in bed?"
"Going straight to the dirty talk, huh? I didn't expect that. You gonna ask what I'm wearing next?"
I laugh. "I was just asking to make sure you weren't trying to sleep. I didn't want to keep you up."
"It's not even ten. I don't go to bed this early. And as for your other question, I'm shirtless but wearing workout shorts."
"I never asked what you were wearing."
    "Well, now you know."
Imagining him shirtless has heat surging inside me. All night long I tried to ignore my attraction to him, but my body wouldn't let me. When he touched my hand at dinner, my heart immediately sped up. He doesn't even have to touch me
