tried
to pat her awkwardly on the hand. “There…there.” With a flash, she was suddenly
holding a cup of steaming liquid. “Drink that. It should make you feel better.”
Taking a sip Alea brightened slightly at a sudden thought. “Do I get my three days to say goodbye?” Even
though she would be a spirit, at least she would get to see Maliuth a few more
times. She had loved Jeff, but said goodbye because she knew he would have a
great life. She loved Maliuth
differently, and leaving him was going to destroy both of them.
“What?” Flaura laughed a
melodic tinkling sound. “ Now I understand
the tears.” Holding her hand she sighed ,
“Alea you are not dead. This is a waiting room. When I assigned you to Prion, I
had no idea that your energy would have the reaction it did. Then again…no
energy from Earth has been assigned to Prion before. So there you have it.” Smiling as if that explained everything, Flaura started looking around.
“That doesn’t explain anything!” Alea snapped, “I don’t care if I have
special abilities on Prion. All I want to know is if I’m not dead, how do I get
out of here and back to Abondiel?”
“Well I thought it was an
interesting anomaly.” Flaura huffed, “ There
is one small matter to be taken care of and you will be returned to Abondiel.”
“What small matter?” Alea asked excitedly.
“ There is a growing evil in
Abondiel that needs to be taken care of. Once this energy is reclaimed, it will
be safe for you to go back to Prion…and Maliuth. Until then you will be stuck
in this waiting room, although as angry as your mate is…I don’t think we have
long to wait now.”
“Maliuth?” Alea gasped, “Is he in danger? You need to let me help him.”
She jumped up and looked at Flaura frantically.
“ Sit down Alea.” Flaura just
waved her hand and Alea was sitting again. “Maliuth
is a big boy and can take care of himself.”
“I know that!” Alea argued, “I just want to be there for him.”
“This is one fight you are going to
sit out…you will be going soon. I know you didn’t do it on purpose, but I want
to thank you for raising my success rate. I am actually on par with Florian
now.”
Alea just looked at Flaura absently, “You’re welcome?!” She suddenly had
the urge to lick her lips as a strange taste went across her tongue.
“I won’t be seeing you for a very
long time Alea. I really am happy that you found your place on Abondiel.” Snapping
her fingers Flaura suddenly had a briefcase in her lap, taking out some papers
she started stamping them.“ Don’t waste your new ability. You have the
chance to make a difference. Now I think there is a nice place on Earth for The
Elder to learn a lesson in humility.” Flaura started to fade.
Before she could say goodbye, Flaura was gone and she was fading too, but
not before she saw the shocked face of The Elder as he flashed past her in the
void.
Chapter Fourteen
“Alea is missing.” Maliuth froze when he heard his mother’s panicked
yell. “I went to your home to visit. The door was open and Alea was nowhere to
be found.
His gaze swung from his mother to his father. “Your mother ran straight
home to get me.” Malendroch took his wife’s hand and tried to get her to stop
flailing them around. “We searched your home and asked around. The only figures
anyone saw close to your home were that of some Oracles.” His father gave him a
knowing look.
“We got here as soon as we could.” Galan hurried in with his father and
mother in tow. “One of the guards came to tell us that Alea is missing. Is this
true Maliuth?”
Maliuth bowed to his King and Queen then answered his friend, “It is
true. My mother went to visit her and our home is empty. Alea would not wander
the community alone. She is not familiar enough with the platforms and bridges.
In addition, witnesses have placed Oracle at my home. There is only one reason
they could have been there.”
“Why would the
