body that nigga.”
“ I’m going to call him and tell him to come over and we’re going to figure this thing out.” My dad dialed Boss’s number and put the phone on the speaker. He didn’t answer the first call, but did the second.
“ What’s up pops?” he asked in a sleepy voice.
“ Come over to the house,” Pops ordered him.
    “ I’ll drop by later.”
“ Not later Roman, come right now.” It was a command.
“ A nigga just got to bed,” Boss complained sucking his teeth. “A’ight, I’ll be there in a minute.” He ended the call.
We waited in the living room for him to arrive and thirty minutes later he showed up looking disgruntled.
“What’s the big emergency?” he questioned in a peeved tone.
“ Who in your crew knew about last night’s job?” pops demanded.
“ The only one I told was Axel, but I don’t know if he told anyone else; Why?”
“ Because mother fuckers tried to gun a nigga down last night after I left them stick-up kids place.” I said heatedly, watching his facial features for a reaction but his blank look didn’t give anything away.
“ You’re sure it wasn’t someone from the house you ran up in.”
“ Of course I’m sure nigga. Lux watched that house for a day and a half and only the three dudes we popped ever came or left from there. I was careful, I know how to do my job,” I told him in irritation. “And I know it’s not someone from my crew. I trust those dudes with my life. They’ve been on my team since day one and never betrayed me before.”
“ If you’re accusing me of something say it straight up nigga,” Boss snapped angrily.
“ I’m saying it’s either you or that grimy ass friend of yours who tried to kill me. My guess it’s the both of you,” I raged furiously. “And when I have the proof that ya’ll pussies are responsible ya’ll better dig a hole and bury ya’selves because it will be the better of two evils.”
“ Fuck you nigga,” he fumed. “You’re always…”
I flew at him and gave him a right hook to the mouth before he could finish his statement. Another punch to the face had him on the floor. I had just started stomping on him while he tried to use his hands to protect his face, when pops pulled me off him.
“ Calm down Ricardo,” pops ordered.
“ The nigga is fucking crazy,” Boss seethed from his place on the floor, spitting blood.
“ Nigga I warned you,” I said calmly massaging my sore knuckles. “I’m the boss around here now. You need to learn respect.”
He looked to pops for a reprimand against me and when he saw none forthcoming he got pissed. Pops knew I had to get my point across to the nigga that I ran shit now. If you had one underling disrespecting you, soon you would have many.
“ I see what’s up,” he said getting off the floor. “Ya’ll gonna do me like this. It’s all good.” He walked out without another word.
“ I’m sorry pops,” I apologized. I knew us fighting must have been hard for him, after all we were both his sons.
He sat on the sofa shaking his head. “I knew when I gave you the reins there would be problems between you two and a need for adjustment, but all of this,” he waved his hands encompassing the room, “I never expected.”
“ I warned that fool before pops.”
“ I know that Ricardo and I understand why you did what you did, but that doesn’t make it any easier,” he explained. “You should question Axel; see what he has to say.”
    “ A’ight.”
On my way home I tried calling Axel’s phone but it kept going to voicemail. I left him a message that I needed to talk to him and then I called Delco and told him to get the word out that I was looking for that nigga. I was a hundred percent sure that Axel and my brother tried to kill me, if not by their own hands, they got someone to do it for them. I knew pops didn’t want to believe that one son could try to kill the other, but in my world that Cain and Abel type shit was real
