the park, and Mommy can meet us there? We can get a head start on our sightseeing. How does that sound?”
“Son, Thomas and Nevvie were very clear when they said—”
“Dad, it’s quite all right. They’re just overprotective is all.” He returned his attention to Adam. “Mommy can meet us there. It’s only a few minutes away, just right inside the park. How does that sound?”
Adam quickly nodded. “That sounds good, Daddy.”
Tyler clapped his hands together and laughed. “Aces!”
Mikey mimicked him, clapping and laughing.
Andrew cleared his throat. “Nevvie said she’d be back in a couple of hours, and that we’re to wait.”
Tyler waved his objections down. “It’s fine, Dad. Truly.”
While the men were discussing this, Adam grabbed another biscuit off the plate and climbed out of the booth. Tyler noticed he was headed straight for the drawer again. He tapped his father on the shoulder, interrupting him in mid-sentence. Both men watched as Adam gently pulled the drawer open and slipped the biscuit inside.
“Son, what are you doing?” Tyler asked.
Startled, Adam jumped, quickly closing the drawer and sitting against it. “Nothing, Daddy,” he said with a shake of his head.
The men exchanged a knowing glance. “Adam,” Tyler said, “what is in the drawer?”
Adam shook his head, but didn’t answer.
The men walked over. Tyler extended a hand to his son, who finally, reluctantly took it and stood to join him. Andrew reached down and opened the drawer.
    Both men gasped.
Surprised by the sudden light, the little puppy blinked and stared at them.
    “Oh my god,” Tyler whispered.
Andrew let out a laugh. “Tyler, you realize Nevvie’s going to kill you, right?”
    Tyler gulped.

Chapter Nine

Tyler was rarely a man at a loss for words. At that moment, however, he found his extensive vocabulary had completely escaped him. Andrew held Mikey as they all stood outside watching Adam with the puppy. The puppy, which Adam had already named Harley, sniffed around in a few tufts of grass outside the RV.
    Strike one.
“So what are you going to do, son?” Andrew asked Tyler.
Tyler shook his head. “I don’t have a bloody clue,” he whispered. They would have to move the RV, because the park manager said they were booked up with reservations, and Tyler had only booked them there for one night.
    Strike two.
And they couldn’t very well just dump the puppy. That would be inhumane. Not to mention Adam was already attached to him, and Tyler couldn’t bring himself to get rid of the cute little bugger. A tricolored terrier mix with a lot of white on his head and body, and no more than three pounds, it was obvious from the puppy’s fine-boned frame and small paws that he, indeed, wouldn’t get very big. That Adam had managed to keep him hidden for two days was proof of the pup’s quiet nature.
And that Adam had managed to care for the puppy, and properly dispose of its waste, was further proof that Adam was dedicated, even at such a young age, to properly caring for him. None of them had thought anything of Adam spending so much time around his drawer, because that’s where he kept his personal things and toys. And Adam had apparently carried the puppy in his backpack when they left the RV for any length of time.
He couldn’t fault his son’s ingenuity, using Mikey’s baby wipes and diapers and disposing of the puppy’s poop in the diaper pail in the bathroom.
    Strike three.
This trip wasn’t turning out at all the way Tyler had planned.
He took a deep breath and scrubbed his face with his hands. “I suppose the first thing I need to do is walk over to the general store and pick up some proper puppy food.” He put his hands on his hips and stared at Adam. “Son, I thought I told you you couldn’t get a puppy.”
Adam picked up the puppy and hugged him. “I know, Daddy. I’m sorry. But she told me her parents were going to take them to the shelter if they couldn’t find
