name?â
âKenya Whitaker,â Trey said. âI already asked for a workup on her but I think Iâllââ Joshua started laughing. Trey looked at him. âWhat?â
âTrey, man, you really are out of it today, arenât you?â The expression on his face said it allâhe was clueless. âDamn, man, what did she do to you already?â
âWhat?â Trey asked, knowing heâd missed something.
âTrey, you said her name is Kenya Whitaker, as in James Whitaker, Whitaker Real Estate Investment Company. Itâs all in the file,â he offered, pointing to the paperwork on his desk. âJames and Lynette, so that would make your visitor, more likely than not, hisââ
âDaughter. Interesting,â Trey said, smiling.
âWhatâs interesting is that you didnât make the more than obvious connection sooner.â
Joshua opened his own folder and began scanning the information. âHere it is in his personal data, he has three daughtersâKenya, Asia and Sidney.â
âWhat does it say about them, her?â
âKenya is the oldest, twenty-eight years old, a graduate of Parsons School of Design in New York. Currently residing in D.C., and thatâs all we have on her.â
âThatâs all?â Trey questioned.
âTrey, James and Lynette are our clients, not his daughters. We did a full workup on him and his wife. We only needed the daughtersâ information for insurance purposes.â
âKenya is Jamesâs daughter. Interesting,â Trey repeated, touching his lips.
âIs that all you can say? The man tried to scam you, and then he claimed that you took advantage of him. He threatened to file a lawsuit, claimed he wasnât fully apprised of the ramifications of what he was doing. I was in the law library for two weeks preparing for that.â
âBut he never filed. And now, months later, his daughter shows up on my doorstep. Yes, Iâd call that very interesting.â
âObviously she thinks she can get her fatherâs company back.â
âObviously,â Trey said, half chuckling.
âIf thatâs the case then you can blow her off.â
Trey smiled. âNo, not so fast. It takes a lot of guts to standon a manâs doorstep with the sole intention of demanding retribution. I think Iâm going to give her a bit of leeway.â
âOh, man,â Joshua said, shaking his head, âI can see it on your face. Youâre like a cat with a toy mouse ready to play.â
âCome on, I seldom get to play with such a worthy and attractive adversary anymore.â
âThereâs a reason for thatâyou donât play fair.â
âFair, whatâs fair?â
âWhy is she demanding the company back?â Joshua asked. âIt makes no sense.â Trey shrugged. âUnless, of course, she doesnât have the whole story,â he said.
âIâm guessing not,â Trey said.
âTrey, play nice, drop it now while you can. You donât need drama and distractions right now,â Joshua suggested, knowing that he wouldnât.
âActually, there is a small snag.â
âYou mean the fact that she probably most definitely hates you?â
âOkay, maybe a couple of small snags. But the one Iâm concerned about is Louise Gates.â
âMamma Lou? What about her?â Joshua asked, looking suddenly stressed.
âShe stopped by the house while Kenya was there. Mamma Lou assumed we were together.â
âNow let me guess, you let her.â
âI didnât see any reason to disappoint her. I figured it was a way to keep her off my back.â
âEnter drama and distractions.â
âNot at all, I can handle Mamma Lou.â
âFamous last words, man. One of these days that old lady is gonna have you cornered. And all the dancing in the world wonât get you out of it. Sheâs
