little rest and then we can love
you again,” he said.
Ewan chuckled.
He cupped her other breast and squeezed in a gentle motion, like
Royce was doing.
Her pussy
quivered with reaction and she creamed warmly.
Goodness, how
was it possible that they could keep turning her on even after
she’d climaxed so many times tonight?
“ We have a
proposition for you,” Ewan said.
Despite her
sleepiness, Jaxie recognized the seriousness in his voice. She
opened her eyes and he grinned at her. It was an erotic smile that
sent wicked shivers through her.
He’d never
looked at her so intensely before.
“ W-what kind
of proposition?”
“ What would
you say if you and I got back together? This time with an added
bonus to entice you away from work and the club and to come home
every night.”
Jaxie’s
thoughts whirled at Ewan’s idea. He wanted them to get back
together? How had this come about?
Or was he just
saying this because he thought she might be pregnant?
She blinked
and tried like heck to figure out if she was dreaming. Over the
past week, she’d tried like crazy to come to grips with going on
without Ewan in her life. She understood that she was partially to
blame…okay — more than partially — for their breakups. Her career
had come first. This club had been more important to her than her
relationship with Ewan. She’d taken him for granted. Had expected
him to stay with her, no matter what. She’d been wrong.
He was giving
her another chance. So why was she hesitating?
“ Why did you
act the way you did when I came over to thank you the other week,
Ewan? It didn’t seem as if you were happy to have me there. Then at
the office…after we made love, you said we could never be together.
Yet now you want me back in your bed? Is it because I might be
pregnant?”
He stiffened.
His hand stilled on her breast. Royce’s hand stilled on her other
breast.
Sure, this was
not the proper time to talk about his behavior or her possible
pregnancy, but what the hey, nothing tonight was proper or
traditional.
Maybe that’s
why you’ve enjoyed it so much .
“ I was
afraid,” he whispered.
Afraid? Ewan?
Confusion enveloped her.
“ When I
thought you might die, I realized how much I love you. I realized
that if you died, something inside me would die too. I knew I
couldn’t go on living without you.”
He hesitated
and inhaled a shaky breath. His eyes glistened.
Oh my
goodness, he was seriously getting emotional. Bubbles of sadness
whipped through her.
“ When you did
make it, I realized I love you too much. I don’t ever want to
experience that hopelessness I felt when I thought I would lose
you. But then the other night, when I saw you again, so vulnerable
and upset with me, the hell I was putting you through. It broke me.
I wanted you. I took you. Then I panicked and took it out on you.
But now I know better. I want you in my life. Forever. Baby or no
baby.”
She lifted her
hand and placed a finger on his warm lips, silencing
him.
“ I
understand,” she whispered.
He shook his
head and continued to speak around her finger.
“ I also
realize I can’t live through the idea of what ifs. What if
something happens to Jaxie again? What if we can’t make a go of it
this time around? What if she says no the next time I ask her to
marry me—”
“ I won’t say
no,” she blurted.
Ewan’s stunned
blinking and Royce’s sharp inhalation made Jaxie smile.
Suddenly
everything had fallen into place. She loved Ewan. She would do
anything to make him happy and to keep him happy.
He shook his
head. “I won’t ask you to marry me.”
Disappointment
rocked her.
“ Not tonight.
But someday, I will.”
He reached up
and traced her left cheekbone. His touch was gentle and his gaze
was serious as he looked at her.
“ Baby or no
baby,” he whispered.
Relief
splashed through her. Not because he wouldn’t propose, but that he
would again sometime.
“ Or I might
decide to break tradition, like I
